Il funzionamento degli adattatori problematici per FreeBSD \u00e8 garantito attraverso l'avvio di un sistema guest con Linux, nel quale vengono caricati i driver nativi per i dispositivi wireless.       <\/p>\n<p>L'installazione del sistema guest con i driver \u00e8 automatizzata, e tutti i componenti necessari sono organizzati in un pacchetto pronto all'uso wifibox, che si avvia al boot tramite il servizio rc fornito. Inclusa la corretta gestione della transizione in modalit\u00e0 sospensione. L'ambiente potrebbe essere utilizzato per qualsiasi scheda WiFi supportata da Linux, ma \u00e8 stato testato principalmente su chip Intel. \u00c8 stata inoltre verificata la corretta funzionalit\u00e0 su sistemi con chip wireless Qualcomm Atheros e AMD RZ608 (MediaTek MT7921K).      <\/p>\n<p>Il sistema guest viene avviato utilizzando l'ipervisore Bhyve, nel quale viene organizzato il pass-through dell'accesso alla scheda wireless. \u00c8 richiesta una macchina con supporto per la virtualizzazione hardware (AMD-Vi o Intel VT-d). Il sistema guest si basa sulla distribuzione Alpine Linux, costruita sulla libreria di sistema Musl e sul set di utilit\u00e0 BusyBox. La dimensione dell'immagine occupa circa 30 MB su disco e consuma circa 90 MB di memoria RAM.    <\/p>\n<p>Per connettersi a una rete wireless si utilizza il pacchetto wpa_supplicant, i file di configurazione del quale vengono sincronizzati con le impostazioni dell'ambiente principale FreeBSD. Il socket Unix gestito creato da wpa_supplicant viene passato all'ambiente host, permettendo l'uso degli strumenti standard di FreeBSD per connettersi e lavorare con la rete wireless, inclusi gli strumenti wpa_cli e wpa_gui (net\/wpa_supplicant_gui).      <\/p>\n<p>Nel nuovo rilascio \u00e8 stato rielaborato il meccanismo di pass-through WPA nell'ambiente principale, permettendo il funzionamento sia con wpa_supplicant che con hostapd. \u00c8 stata ridotta la memoria necessaria per il sistema guest. \u00c8 stata interrotta la compatibilit\u00e0 con FreeBSD 13.0-RELEASE.          <\/p>\n<p>Inoltre, vale la pena segnalare i lavori per il miglioramento dei driver offerti in FreeBSD per le schede wireless con chip Intel e Realtek. Con il supporto dell'organizzazione FreeBSD Foundation, continua lo sviluppo di un nuovo driver iwlwifi, incluso nella versione FreeBSD 13.1. Il driver si basa sul driver Linux e sul codice del sottosistema Linux net80211, supporta lo standard 802.11ac e pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato con i nuovi chip wireless Intel. Il driver si carica automaticamente all'avvio quando viene rilevata la scheda wireless necessaria. Il funzionamento dei componenti dello stack wireless Linux \u00e8 garantito tramite il layer LinuxKPI. In precedenza, un driver simile era stato portato su FreeBSD.     <\/p>\n<p>Parallelamente, \u00e8 iniziato lo sviluppo dei driver rtw88 e rtw89 per i chip wireless Realtek RTW88 e RTW89, che vengono sviluppati anche tramite il porting dei relativi driver da Linux e funzionano grazie al layer LinuxKPI. Il driver rtw88 \u00e8 gi\u00e0 pronto per la fase iniziale di test, mentre il driver rtw89 \u00e8 ancora in fase di sviluppo.     <\/p>\n<p>Inoltre, si possono menzionare i dettagli e l'exploit pronto riguardanti la vulnerabilit\u00e0 (CVE-2022-23088) nello stack wireless di FreeBSD, risolta nell'aggiornamento di aprile. La vulnerabilit\u00e0 consente di eseguire codice a livello di kernel inviando un frame appositamente formattato mentre il client \u00e8 in modalit\u00e0 di scansione della rete (nella fase prima della connessione SSID). Il problema \u00e8 causato da un buffer overflow nella funzione ieee80211_parse_beacon() durante l'analisi dei frame beacon trasmessi dal punto di accesso. L'overflow \u00e8 stato possibile a causa della mancanza di un controllo sulla corrispondenza tra la dimensione effettiva dei dati e la dimensione specificata nel campo dell'intestazione. wireless in FreeBSD: \u00e8 stata ottimizzata la fase di avvio, che \u00e8 stata ridotta da 10 a 8 secondi nel sistema di test; \u00e8 stato implementato il modulo GEOM gunion per trasferire su un altro disco le modifiche apportate sopra un disco disponibile in sola lettura; per le primitive crittografiche crypto API del kernel sono stati preparati i primitive crittografici XChaCha20-Poly1305
