Il chip RP2040 include un processore dual-core ARM Cortex-M0+ (133MHz) con 264 KB di memoria RAM integrata (SRAM), un controller DMA, un sensore di temperatura, un timer e un controller USB 1.1. Per l'ingresso\/uscita sono previsti porte GPIO (30 pin, di cui 4 dedicati all'ingresso analogico), UART, I2C, SPI, USB (client e host con supporto per il boot da drive in formato UF2) e 8 pin specializzati PIO (Programmable I\/O state machines) per il collegamento di periferiche personalizzate. L'alimentazione pu\u00f2 essere fornita in un intervallo da 1.8 a 5.5 volt, il che consente di utilizzare diverse fonti di energia, comprese due o tre normali batterie AA oppure batterie agli ioni di litio standard. <\/p>\n

Per la creazione di applicazioni pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato il linguaggio C, C++ o MicroPython. Il porting di MicroPython per Raspberry Pi Pico \u00e8 stato realizzato in collaborazione con l'autore del progetto e supporta tutte le funzionalit\u00e0 del chip, incluso l'interfaccia di collegamento delle espansioni PIO.
