Richard Fontana, uno degli autori della licenza GPLv3 e consulente per licenze open source e brevi in Red Hat, ha annunciato piani per modifiche alle regole del progetto Fedora, vietando l'inclusione nei repository di software distribuito con licenza Creative Commons CC0. La licenza CC0 comporta la rinuncia dell'autore ai propri diritti e la distribuzione come bene pubblico, consentendo di distribuire, modificare e copiare il software senza alcuna condizione e per qualsiasi scopo. <\/p>\n

La ragione del divieto del CC0 \u00e8 l'incertezza riguardo ai brevetti sul software. Nel testo della licenza CC0 c'\u00e8 una clausola che indica chiaramente che la licenza non tocca i diritti sui brevetti e sui marchi commerciali che possono essere utilizzati nell'applicazione. La possibilit\u00e0 di influsso attraverso i brevetti \u00e8 vista come una minaccia potenziale, pertanto le licenze che non forniscono esplicitamente l'opzione di utilizzo dei brevetti o che non rinunciano ai brevetti sono considerate non appartenenti alla categoria del software libero e open source (FOSS). <\/p>\n

La possibilit\u00e0 di ospitare nei repository contenuti sotto licenza CC0 non legati al codice sar\u00e0 mantenuta. Per i pacchetti di codice gi\u00e0 presenti nei repository di Fedora forniti con licenza CC0, potrebbe essere previsto un'eccezione che ne consenta la continuazione della distribuzione. L'inclusione di nuovi pacchetti di codice forniti con licenza CC0 sar\u00e0 vietata.
