Le aziende Google e SkyWater hanno annunciato l'aggiornamento dell'iniziativa che consente agli sviluppatori di hardware open source di produrre gratuitamente un lotto di prototipi dei chip che stanno sviluppando, per evitare costi di produzione dei prototipi iniziali. Tutti i costi di produzione, imballaggio e spedizione sono a carico di Google. Le domande sono accettate solo da progetti completamente distribuiti sotto licenze aperte, non soggetti a accordi di riservatezza (NDA) e che non limitano l'ambito di utilizzo dei propri prodotti. <\/p>\n

Le modifiche presentate consistono nella possibilit\u00e0 di utilizzare il processo tecnologico a 90nm invece del 130nm precedentemente proposto. A breve sar\u00e0 pubblicato un nuovo set di strumenti SkyWater PDK (Process Design Kit), che descrive il processo tecnologico a 90nm FDSOI (SKY90-FD) utilizzato nella fabbrica SkyWater e che consente di preparare i file di progettazione necessari per la produzione di circuiti integrati. A differenza del tradizionale processo CMOS BULK, il processo SKY90-FD si distingue per l'uso di uno strato isolante pi\u00f9 sottile tra il substrato e il livello superiore del cristallo, e, di conseguenza, per la realizzazione di transistor pi\u00f9 sottili.
