Le aziende Google e SkyWater hanno annunciato un aggiornamento dell'iniziativa che consente agli sviluppatori di hardware open source di produrre gratuitamente un lotto di prova dei chip che stanno sviluppando, per evitare i costi di produzione dei prototipi iniziali. Tutti i costi di produzione, imballaggio e spedizione saranno coperti da Google. Le domande vengono accettate solo da progetti completamente distribuiti sotto licenze aperte, privi di accordi di non divulgazione (NDA) e senza limitazioni sull'uso dei loro prodotti. <\/p>\n

Le modifiche proposte riguardano la possibilit\u00e0 di utilizzare un processo tecnologico da 90nm invece del 130nm precedentemente offerto. A breve sar\u00e0 pubblicato un nuovo strumento SkyWater PDK (Process Design Kit), che descriver\u00e0 il processo tecnologico FDSOI da 90nm (SKY90-FD) utilizzato nello stabilimento SkyWater e permetter\u00e0 di preparare i file di progetto necessari per la produzione dei circuiti integrati. A differenza del tradizionale processo CMOS BULK, il processo SKY90-FD si distingue per l'uso di uno strato isolante pi\u00f9 sottile tra il substrato e lo strato superiore del cristallo, e, di conseguenza, per la realizzazione pi\u00f9 sottile dei transistor.
