Per il kernel Linux \u00e8 stata proposta la nona versione delle patch con componenti per lo sviluppo di driver per dispositivi in linguaggio Rust. La nuova versione \u00e8 un'edizione ridotta dell'ottava versione pubblicata qualche giorno fa. Il pacchetto si distingue per una significativa riduzione delle dimensioni, mantenendo solo il minimo indispensabile necessario per compilare un modulo del kernel scritto in Rust. <\/p>\n

Si prevede che la patch minima semplifichi l'adozione del supporto di Rust nel kernel principale. Dopo aver garantito un supporto minimo, si intende aumentare gradualmente le funzionalit\u00e0 esistenti, trasferendo anche altre modifiche dal ramo Rust-for-Linux. <\/p>\n

Rispetto all'ottava versione, la dimensione della patch \u00e8 stata ridotta da 40 a 13 mila righe di codice. Ad esempio, la nona versione include solo il 3% del codice (500 righe) del pacchetto crate 'kernel' e il 60% della libreria alloc, che consente di creare i moduli kernel pi\u00f9 semplici utilizzando il tipo Vec e di riportare informazioni nel log del kernel tramite il macro 'pr_info!'.
