La testata The Register ha condotto un test sul consumo di memoria e spazio su disco dopo l'installazione, in una macchina virtuale VirtualBox, delle edizioni del distribuito Ubuntu 21.04 con diversi ambienti desktop. Sono stati testati Ubuntu con GNOME 42, Kubuntu con KDE 5.24.4, Lubuntu con LXQt 0.17, Ubuntu Budgie con Budgie 10.6.1, Ubuntu MATE con MATE 1.26 e Xubuntu con Xfce 4.16. <\/p>\n

La distribuzione pi\u00f9 leggera \u00e8 risultata essere Lubuntu, con un consumo di memoria dopo l'avvio del desktop di 357 MB e un'occupazione di spazio su disco di 7,3 GB dopo l'installazione. Il maggiore consumo di memoria \u00e8 stato mostrato dalla versione principale di Ubuntu con GNOME (710 MB), mentre il massimo consumo di spazio su disco \u00e8 stato di Kubuntu (11 GB). Tuttavia, per quanto riguarda il consumo di memoria, Kubuntu ha mostrato risultati abbastanza buoni \u2014 584 MB, superando solo Lubuntu (357 MB) e Xubuntu (479 MB), ma superando Ubuntu (710 MB), Ubuntu Budgie (657 MB) e Ubuntu MATE (591 MB).
