La redazione di The Register ha effettuato un test sul consumo di memoria e disco dopo l'installazione nelle macchine virtuali VirtualBox delle diverse edizioni della distribuzione Ubuntu 21.04 con vari ambienti desktop. Sono stati testati Ubuntu con GNOME 42, Kubuntu con KDE 5.24.4, Lubuntu con LXQt 0.17, Ubuntu Budgie con Budgie 10.6.1, Ubuntu MATE con MATE 1.26 e Xubuntu con Xfce 4.16. <\/p>\n

La distribuzione pi\u00f9 leggera \u00e8 risultata essere Lubuntu, con un consumo di memoria dopo l'avvio del desktop di 357 MB e un'occupazione di spazio su disco dopo l'installazione di 7.3 GB. Il maggiore consumo di memoria \u00e8 stato registrato dalla versione principale di Ubuntu con GNOME (710 MB), mentre il maggiore uso di spazio su disco \u00e8 stato di Kubuntu (11 GB). Tuttavia, per quanto riguarda il consumo di memoria, Kubuntu ha mostrato risultati piuttosto buoni - 584 MB, superando solo Lubuntu (357 MB) e Xubuntu (479 MB), ma battendo Ubuntu (710 MB), Ubuntu Budgie (657 MB) e Ubuntu MATE (591 MB).
