L'ambiente desktop Cinnamon \u00e8 sviluppato dalla comunit\u00e0 di sviluppatori della distribuzione Linux Mint ed \u00e8 un fork di GNOME Shell, del file manager Nautilus e del window manager Mutter, mirato a fornire un ambiente in stile classico GNOME 2 con elementi di interazione raffinati provenienti da GNOME Shell. Cinnamon si basa sui componenti di GNOME, ma questi componenti vengono forniti come un fork sincronizzato periodicamente, senza dipendenze esterne da GNOME.
