I progressi del progetto sono rilasciati sotto licenza BSD.       <\/p>\n<p>Proton consente di avviare direttamente nel client Steam per Linux applicazioni di gioco fornite solo per Windows. Il pacchetto include l'implementazione di DirectX 9\/10\/11 (basata sul pacchetto DXVK) e DirectX 12 (basata su vkd3d-proton), che funziona tramite la traduzione delle chiamate DirectX nell'API Vulkan, offre un supporto migliorato per i controller di gioco e la possibilit\u00e0 di utilizzare la modalit\u00e0 a schermo intero indipendentemente dalle risoluzioni supportate nei giochi. I patch specifici accumulati da Proton sono stati trasferiti nel ramo principale di Wine. Fino alla versione 2.1-4, \u00e8 stato aggiornato il layer DXVK, che traduce le chiamate nell'API Vulkan. VKD3D-Proton, un fork di vkd3d creato da Valve per migliorare il supporto per Direct3D 12 in Proton, \u00e8 stato aggiornato alla versione 2.8-84.
