Il progetto \u00e8 sviluppato dalla China Electronics Corporation con la partecipazione di oltre 270 diverse organizzazioni cinesi, istituzioni educative, centri di ricerca, produttori di software e hardware. Lo sviluppo avviene sotto licenze open (principalmente GPLv3) nei repository ospitati su gitee.com. Le versioni pronte di openKylin 1.0 sono state create per le architetture X86_64 (4,2 GB), ARM e RISC-V nelle edizioni per PC\/portatili, tablet e schede. Nelle versioni per ARM sono supportate schede come Raspberry Pi, Cool Pi e Chillie Pi, mentre nella versione per RISC-V \u00e8 stata implementata la compatibilit\u00e0 con le schede VisonFive2, HiFive, SG2042 EVB, Lichepi4a e Lotus2.    <\/p>\n<p>Come ambiente utente, la distribuzione utilizza la shell UKUI (Ultimate Kylin User Interface), che segue un modello classico di organizzazione del desktop per PC e offre una modalit\u00e0 opzionale per tablet, controllata tramite touchscreen e dotata di tastiera virtuale. Per la gestione delle finestre \u00e8 stato impiegato un window manager derivato da KWin, che supporta il funzionamento con X11 e Wayland (selezionabile nella schermata di accesso al sistema). Dal KDE sono stati utilizzati anche il centro di controllo delle applicazioni e il configuratore.
