La specifica, pubblicata come RFC-9498, ha ottenuto lo status di \"Standard proposto\". L'implementazione di GNS completamente conforme al RFC pubblicato \u00e8 parte della piattaforma GNUnet 0.20.0 ed \u00e8 inoltre disponibile nel codice sorgente del progetto GNUnet-Go.           <\/p>\n<p>GNS pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato affianco al DNS e impiegato in applicazioni tradizionali, come i browser web. L'integrit\u00e0 e l'immutabilit\u00e0 delle registrazioni sono garantite dall'uso di meccanismi crittografici. A differenza del DNS, GNS utilizza un grafo diretto anzich\u00e9 una gerarchia ad albero. <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/it\/server\/\"   title=\"server\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"1648\">server<\/a> viene utilizzato un grafo diretto. La trasformazione dei nomi \u00e8 simile a quella del DNS, ma le richieste e le risposte vengono eseguite mantenendo la riservatezza \u2014 il nodo che elabora la richiesta non sa a chi viene fornita la risposta, e i nodi di transito e gli osservatori esterni non possono decifrare le richieste e le risposte.    <\/p>\n<p>La zona DNS in GNS \u00e8 definita tramite una coppia di chiavi aperta e chiusa ECDSA basata su curve ellittiche Curve25519. L'uso di Curve25519 \u00e8 visto da alcuni come una scelta piuttosto strana, poich\u00e9 per l'ECDSA vengono normalmente utilizzati altri tipi di curve ellittiche, e in abbinamento a Curve25519 si utilizza di solito l'algoritmo di firma digitale Ed25519, pi\u00f9 moderno, pi\u00f9 sicuro e pi\u00f9 veloce rispetto all'ECDSA. Dal punto di vista della resistenza crittografica, solleva anche dubbi la scelta delle dimensioni della chiave \u2014 32 byte invece di 64 byte, utilizzate di solito per Ed25519, cos\u00ec come l'uso della crittografia simmetrica a cascata, utilizzando gli algoritmi AES e TwoFish in modalit\u00e0 CFB.    <\/p>\n<p>Questo approccio \u00e8 giustificato dalla necessit\u00e0 di implementare chiavi gerarchiche che permettano di utilizzare la chiave pubblica radice per estrarre una chiave pubblica secondaria, sfruttando la propriet\u00e0 di linearit\u00e0 della curva Curve25519. Questa caratteristica consente di ottenere chiavi pubbliche secondarie senza conoscere le chiavi private radice. Questa tecnica \u00e8 utilizzata anche in Bitcoin.
