Come dimostrazione pratica delle vulnerabilit\u00e0 identificate, sono state sviluppate 6 varianti di attacco che consentono di infiltrarsi in una connessione tra dispositivi Bluetooth precedentemente accoppiati. Il codice che implementa i metodi di attacco e gli strumenti per verificare la presenza di vulnerabilit\u00e0 sono stati pubblicati su GitHub.      <\/p>\n<p>Sono state identificate vulnerabilit\u00e0 durante l'analisi dei meccanismi descritti nello standard per garantire la segretezza diretta (Forward and Future Secrecy), che contrastano la compromissione delle chiavi di sessione nel caso di una chiave permanente identificata (la compromissione di una delle chiavi permanenti non dovrebbe portare alla decrittazione di sessioni precedentemente intercettate o future) e riutilizzo delle chiavi di sessione (la chiave di una sessione non dovrebbe essere applicabile a un'altra sessione). Le vulnerabilit\u00e0 trovate consentono di eludere la protezione indicata e riutilizzare una chiave di sessione non sicura in diverse sessioni. Queste vulnerabilit\u00e0 sono causate da lacune nel standard di base, non specifiche per singoli stack Bluetooth, e si manifestano in chip di vari produttori.     <center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"BLUFFS - vulnerabilit\u00e0 in Bluetooth che consentono attacchi MITM\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/eb2b7d9e0a1b270ee116ffbb2ba86a5a.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center>      <\/p>\n<p>I metodi di attacco proposti realizzano diverse varianti di spoofing delle connessioni Bluetooth classiche (LSC, Legacy Secure Connections basate su primitivi crittografici obsoleti) e sicure (SC, Secure Connections basate su ECDH e AES-CCM) tra il sistema e il dispositivo periferico, oltre a organizzare attacchi MITM per le connessioni in modalit\u00e0 LSC e SC. Si presume che tutte le implementazioni Bluetooth conformi allo standard siano vulnerabili a varianti dell'attacco BLUFFS. La funzionalit\u00e0 del metodo \u00e8 stata dimostrata su 18 dispositivi di aziende come Intel, Broadcom, Apple, Google, Microsoft, CSR, Logitech, Infineon, Bose, Dell e Xiaomi.      <center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"BLUFFS - vulnerabilit\u00e0 in Bluetooth che consentono attacchi MITM\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/497b2dc1fc82f929bd57895618bb3fa9.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center>      <\/p>\n<p>La natura delle vulnerabilit\u00e0 risiede nella possibilit\u00e0 di ripristinare forzatamente la connessione all'uso di un vecchio lavoro LSC e di una chiave di sessione (SK) non sicura senza violare lo standard, specificando, durante il processo di associazione della connessione, l'entropia minima possibile e ignorando il contenuto della risposta con i parametri di autenticazione (CR), il che porta alla generazione di una chiave di sessione basata su parametri di input costanti (la chiave di sessione SK \u00e8 calcolata come KDF della chiave permanente (PK) e dei parametri concordati durante la sessione). Ad esempio, un attaccante durante un attacco MITM pu\u00f2 sostituire, nel processo di associazione della sessione, i parametri \ud835\udc4e e \ud835\udc4f con valori nulli, e impostare l'entropia \ud835\udc51 a 1, il che porter\u00e0 alla formazione di una chiave di sessione \ud835\udc53 con effettiva entropia di 1 byte (la dimensione minima standard dell'entropia \u00e8 di 7 byte (56 bit), che ha un livello di sicurezza comparabile alla forza di un attacco di forza bruta contro chiavi DES).    <\/p>\n<p>Se un attaccante riesce a ottenere l'utilizzo di una chiave pi\u00f9 corta durante il processo di negoziazione della connessione, pu\u00f2 poi utilizzare la forza bruta per determinare la chiave permanente (PK) utilizzata per la crittografia e decrittare il traffico tra i dispositivi. Poich\u00e9 durante un attacco MITM \u00e8 possibile avviare l'uso della stessa chiave di crittografia, se tale chiave viene scoperta, pu\u00f2 essere utilizzata anche per decrittare tutte le sessioni passate e future intercettate dall'attaccante.  <center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"BLUFFS - vulnerabilit\u00e0 in Bluetooth che consentono attacchi MITM\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/e27d88365015f585e8d6dace90547f46.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center>      <\/p>\n<p>Per bloccare le vulnerabilit\u00e0, \u00e8 stato proposto dai ricercatori di apportare modifiche allo standard che ampliano il protocollo LMP e cambiano la logica di utilizzo della KDF (Key Derivation Function) durante la generazione delle chiavi in modalit\u00e0 LSC. La modifica non compromette la retrocompatibilit\u00e0, ma comporta l'inclusione di un comando LMP esteso e la necessit\u00e0 di inviare 48 byte aggiuntivi. L'organizzazione Bluetooth SIG, che si occupa dello sviluppo degli standard Bluetooth, ha suggerito come misura di protezione di rifiutare le connessioni tramite canali crittografati con chiavi di dimensioni fino a 7 byte.
