Durante lo sviluppo, parte del codice \u00e8 stato preso in prestito dalla libreria newlib del progetto Cygwin e AVR Libc, sviluppata per microcontrollori Atmel AVR. Il codice di PicoLibc \u00e8 distribuito con licenza BSD. Viene supportata la compilazione della libreria per architetture ARM (32-bit), Aarch64, i386, RISC-V, x86_64, m68k e PowerPC.     <\/p>\n<p>Inizialmente, il progetto si \u00e8 sviluppato con il nome &#171;newlib-nano&#187; ed era mirato a rielaborare alcune funzioni che richiedevano molte risorse di Newlib, difficili da utilizzare su dispositivi embedding con poca RAM. Ad esempio, nelle PicoLibc, le funzioni stdio sono state sostituite da una versione compatta della libreria avrlibc. Il codice \u00e8 stato anche ripulito dai componenti non utilizzati nella build per dispositivi embedded, forniti non sotto licenza BSD. \u00c8 stata aggiunta una versione semplificata del codice di inizializzazione (crt0), e l'implementazione delle chiamate \u00e8 stata trasferita da &#8216;struct _reent&#8217; al meccanismo TLS (thread-local storage). Per la build \u00e8 stato utilizzato il toolkit Meson.     <\/p>\n<p>Nel nuovo rilascio:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Sono state apportate modifiche da Newlib 4.4.0, come il supporto per il tipo \u00ablong double\u00bb sulle architetture i386, RISC-V, Aarch64 e x86_64, il supporto per le estensioni RISC-V Zfinx\/Zdinx, la possibilit\u00e0 di utilizzare maschere durante l'inserimento di cataloghi, l'implementazione del porting per i processori Xtensa, e la separazione dei gestori printf in file distinti per ridurre le dimensioni durante il linking.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nel picolibc.ld sono stati aggiunti i simboli \u00ab__eh_*\u00bb per LLVM libunwind.\n<li class=\"l\"> Supporto di test per sistemi SPARC a 32 bit \u00e8 stato incluso.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stato garantito il supporto per piattaforme target con tipi di float non convenzionali, che ora si riflettono in tipi a 32, 64, 80 e 128 bit nel codice picolibc.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stato aggiunto il supporto per l'architettura RISC SuperH.\n<li class=\"l\"> Miglioramento del tracciamento dello stack durante il debugging del codice delle eccezioni su sistemi RISC-V.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata aggiunta l'opzione \u00ab-Dfast-bufio=true\u00bb per migliorare l'efficienza di lettura e scrittura quando si utilizza bufio.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata effettuata una pulizia delle funzioni inline pubbliche per condividere la semantica gnu_inline.\n<li class=\"l\"> La maggior parte delle funzioni fenv \u00e8 stata ottimizzata per l'uso di funzioni inline (gnu_inline) invece delle normali.\n<li
