\u00c8 stato pubblicato il progetto RubyWM, che sviluppa un gestore di finestre basato sul protocollo X11, scritto in Ruby, compreso un driver per lavorare con il protocollo X11. RubyWM supporta desktop virtuali e pu\u00f2 utilizzare sia una disposizione a mosaico (tailing) delle finestre sia un posizionamento arbitrario delle finestre sul desktop. Il codice di RubyWM \u00e8 distribuito con licenza MIT. Il progetto sviluppa anche la libreria pure-X11 con implementazione del protocollo X11 in Ruby. <\/p>\n

Il gestore di finestre \u00e8 contrassegnato come sperimentale, ma \u00e8 gi\u00e0 utilizzato nell'attivit\u00e0 quotidiana dell'autore del progetto. Tra le funzionalit\u00e0 ancora da implementare si segnala la decorazione delle finestre (attualmente viene utilizzata una semplice cornice), configurazioni multi-monitor, e il spostamento e il ridimensionamento con il mouse afferrando il bordo della finestra (per agganciare a una finestra si suggerisce di tenere premuto il tasto Window mentre si clicca con il pulsante sinistro o destro del mouse). Per gestire il gestore di finestre si utilizzano eventi X11 ClientMessage, che possono essere generati con l'utility xdotool. Per elaborare le combinazioni di tasti si utilizza sxhkd.
