Nell'utilit\u00e0 split, fornita nel pacchetto GNU coreutils e utilizzata per suddividere file di grandi dimensioni in parti, \u00e8 stata identificata una vulnerabilit\u00e0 (CVE-2024-0684) che porta a un overflow del buffer quando si elaborano righe lunghe (alcuni centinaia di byte), nel caso in cui si utilizzi l'opzione «—line-bytes» («-C»). La vulnerabilit\u00e0 \u00e8 stata scoperta durante l'analisi dei crash che si verificano utilizzando l'utilit\u00e0 split per dividere i dati trasmessi tramite codici QR. <\/p>\n

La vulnerabilit\u00e0 \u00e8 causata da un errore introdotto nella versione coreutils 7.2 durante la sostituzione della chiamata alla funzione xrealloc con xpalloc. \u00c8 gi\u00e0 stata approvata una patch correttiva nella base di codice, ma la nuova versione corretta non \u00e8 ancora stata rilasciata. \u00c8 stato pubblicato un file di esempio per dimostrare l'emergere della vulnerabilit\u00e0, che provoca un overflow eseguendo «split -C 1024 .\/split_me».
