Il progetto PumpkinOS ha tentato di creare una riimplementazione del sistema operativo PalmOS, utilizzato nei comunicatori della Palm. PumpkinOS permette di avviare direttamente applicazioni create per PalmOS, senza utilizzare un emulatore PalmOS e senza richiedere il firmware originale di PalmOS. Le applicazioni costruite per l'architettura m68K possono essere eseguite su sistemi con processori x86 e ARM. Il codice del progetto \u00e8 scritto in linguaggio C e distribuito con licenza GPLv3. <\/p>\n

L'ambiente per l'esecuzione delle applicazioni supporta il funzionamento su Linux e Windows, ma pu\u00f2 anche essere costruito come un sistema operativo autonomo avviabile (l'ambiente di sistema si basa sul kernel Linux e sul pacchetto BusyBox). Viene fornita un'interfaccia grafica per la navigazione tra le applicazioni disponibili e per passare da una all'altra. Sono inclusi quattro applicativi di base, il cui codice \u00e8 stato trasferito dal PalmOS SDK: rubrica, sistema di note Todo, editor di testo MemoPad e calendario.
