Nel codice sorgente di OpenBSD \u00e8 stato approvato un cambiamento che porta l'utilizzo di tar a default a utilizzare il formato PAX per la creazione di archivi. Questa modifica sar\u00e0 inclusa nella release di OpenBSD 7.6. L'uso del formato PAX permetter\u00e0 di salvare nomi di file pi\u00f9 lunghi, gestire i link, fornire informazioni temporali pi\u00f9 precise e archiviare file di dimensioni molto grandi. <\/p>\n

Tra i contro del passaggio a PAX si segnala l'aumento delle dimensioni degli archivi non compressi e il supporto limitato del formato nell'ecosistema. Per ripristinare il comportamento precedente e mantenere gli archivi nel formato TAR, si suggerisce di specificare l'opzione «-F ustar» quando si chiama l'utilit\u00e0 tar.
