Nel codice di base di OpenBSD \u00e8 stato accettato un cambiamento che modifica il comando tar per utilizzare di default il formato PAX durante la creazione di archivi. Questo cambiamento sar\u00e0 incluso nella release di OpenBSD 7.6. L'uso del formato PAX consentir\u00e0 di mantenere nomi di file pi\u00f9 lunghi, gestire collegamenti, utilizzare informazioni temporali pi\u00f9 precise e archiviare file di dimensioni molto grandi. <\/p>\n

Tra gli svantaggi della transizione a PAX si segnala l'aumento delle dimensioni degli archivi non compressi e un supporto limitato per il formato nell'ecosistema. Per ripristinare il comportamento precedente e salvare gli archivi nel formato TAR, si consiglia di specificare l'opzione «-F ustar» durante la chiamata dell'utilit\u00e0 tar.
