Il progetto SmolBSD sviluppa strumenti per la creazione di micro-build di NetBSD, che includono solo i componenti minimi necessari per specifiche applicazioni e possono avviarsi in meno di un secondo. SmolBSD pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato per creare ambienti virtualizzati ridotti per l'esecuzione isolata di singoli servizi. Le dimensioni dell'ambiente base creato sono di circa 10 MB. Per la creazione di ambienti, \u00e8 stato preparato lo strumento mksmolnb, che pu\u00f2 essere eseguito su NetBSD e GNU\/Linux.
