Il percorso dalla versione X1 alla X11 ha avuto luogo in soli tre anni, dopodich\u00e9 lo stato di X11 si \u00e8 stabilizzato e nel tempo \u00e8 stato arricchito con estensioni, senza cambiarne la sostanza. Ad esempio, in passato sono state presentate estensioni comuni come XVideo, X Font Server, XKB, Xinerama, XCB, Multi-Pointer X, Present, DRI2, DRI3, RandR, X Input, ecc. Nel 2011 \u00e8 nata un'iniziativa per la creazione del protocollo X12, ma non \u00e8 andata oltre le discussioni e tutte le attivit\u00e0 per lo sviluppo della sottosistema grafica si sono concentrate sull'evoluzione del protocollo Wayland.<\/p>\n<p>Il 19 giugno \u00e8 considerato anche il giorno di nascita del progetto FreeBSD, che ha compiuto 31 anni. Il 19 giugno 1993, sulla base di un insieme non ufficiale di patch per 386BSD, \u00e8 stato creato il fork di 4.3BSD, con l'obiettivo di sviluppare un sistema operativo veloce, stabile e affidabile per sistemi con processori i386.
