Nelle impostazioni di GNOME \u00e8 stata apportata una modifica che fa s\u00ec che l'interfaccia utilizzi per default il font Inter, progettato specificamente per l'uso nelle interfacce utente e ottimizzato per garantire alta chiarezza dei caratteri di piccole e medie dimensioni (inferiori a 12px) quando visualizzato su schermi di computer. Si prevede che fino alla release autunnale di GNOME 47, la modifica possa essere annullata se i test dovessero risultare non soddisfacenti. <\/p>\n

In modalit\u00e0 predefinita, il font Inter presenta problemi come la visualizzazione identica della lettera maiuscola \u00abI\u00bb e della lettera minuscola \u00abl\u00bb, cos\u00ec come della lettera \u00abO\u00bb e del numero \u00ab0\u00bb. Questo problema pu\u00f2 essere risolto impostando l'opzione \u00abss02\u00bb nella propriet\u00e0 font-feature-settings, supportata in GTK.

La ragione per cui il vecchio font Cantarell, utilizzato in GNOME dal 2010, viene sostituito \u00e8 la stagnazione e i problemi di manutenzione, particolarmente evidenti rispetto allo sviluppo attivo del font Inter, attorno al quale si \u00e8 formata una grande comunit\u00e0 che continua a sviluppare il font, risolvendo difetti, implementando nuove funzionalit\u00e0 e testando la qualit\u00e0 di visualizzazione per diverse lingue e tipi di schermi. <\/p>\n

Per testare il nuovo font nelle installazioni esistenti di GNOME, \u00e8 necessario scaricare e decomprimere l'archivio zip con il font Inter, installare il font facendo doppio clic sui file InterVariable.ttf e InterVariable-Italic.ttf nell'applicazione GNOME Fonts, quindi attivarlo come font per l'interfaccia nell'applicazione GNOME Tweaks o tramite l'utilit\u00e0 gsettings (\u00abgsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface font-name 'Inter Variable 11'\u00bb).
