Dopo oltre un anno di sviluppo, \u00e8 stato preparato il primo porting funzionante del browser Firefox per il sistema operativo open source Haiku, che continua a sviluppare le idee di BeOS. Le versioni installabili non sono ancora pubblicate; per chi desidera utilizzare Firefox su Haiku, viene proposta la costruzione a partire dai codici sorgente. Fino ad ora, su Haiku erano disponibili i browser WebPositive, Epiphany e Falkon, il cui uso comportava difficolt\u00e0 a causa del sospetto di alcune reti di distribuzione dei contenuti e di grandi siti. <\/p>\n

Secondo uno degli sviluppatori di Haiku, nei primi anni 2000, gli appassionati del sistema operativo BeOS furono tra i principali ispiratori della creazione di Firefox. In quel periodo, all'interno del progetto Bezilla, si stava sviluppando un porting della Mozilla Suite per BeOS. Poich\u00e9 il pacchetto era troppo ingombrante, la comunit\u00e0 legata a BeOS tent\u00f2 di creare una versione leggera, mantenendo solo il browser e rimuovendo tutti gli altri componenti, come il client di posta e l'editor di pagine web. Gli sviluppatori di Mozilla considerarono l'idea degna di attenzione e rilasciarono una loro versione separata del browser, chiamata Phoenix, successivamente ribattezzata Firebird a causa di un conflitto con un marchio, e successivamente rinominata Firefox a causa di un'interferenza con il nome di un database libero.
