La caratteristica distintiva del linguaggio \u00e8 che tutti i dati, incluso il codice stesso del programma, possono essere rappresentati come stringhe, il che offre ampie possibilit\u00e0 per la metaprogrammazione e la creazione di estensioni.<\/p>\n<p>Nella nuova versione sono presenti modifiche incompatibili con le versioni 8.x, pertanto \u00e8 stato deciso di aumentare il numero di versione principale:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nella risoluzione dei nomi ora viene utilizzato solo lo spazio dei nomi (namespace) corrente, e non quello globale;<\/li>\n<li>I problemi di codifica nelle funzioni di input\/output ora generano un errore per impostazione predefinita;<\/li>\n<li>Il simbolo tilde (~) nei percorsi dei file non indica pi\u00f9 la directory home dell'utente;<\/li>\n<li>La variabile tcl_precision non influisce pi\u00f9 sulla formattazione dei numeri.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tra le altre modifiche:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00c8 stato aggiunto il supporto per variabili di dimensioni superiori a 2 gigabyte;<\/li>\n<li>Migliorata la gestione di Unicode;<\/li>\n<li>Supporto per l'accesso ai contenuti dei file ZIP come a un file system;<\/li>\n<li>Il multiplexing IO ora supporta epoll (in Linux) e kqueue (in BSD).
