\u00c8 stata rilasciata una nuova versione di dd_rescue 1.99.17, uno strumento per il recupero dei dati da supporti guasti, backup e distribuzione di immagini disco. Non deve essere confusa con l'utilit\u00e0 GNU ddrescue, a differenza della quale dd_rescue offre funzionalit\u00e0 aggiuntive utili, come il supporto per file sparsi, input\/output bypassando la cache, compressione e crittografia trasparenti. L'utilit\u00e0 dd_rescue \u00e8 inclusa in molte distribuzioni popolari di GNU\/Linux, come Fedora, openSUSE, Mageia e ALT Linux. Il codice dell'utilit\u00e0 \u00e8 scritto in linguaggio C ed \u00e8 distribuito sotto licenza GPLv2+. <\/p>\n

La nuova versione include il supporto per compressione e decompressione trasparenti utilizzando l'algoritmo LZMA, consentendo, tra l'altro, di utilizzare immagini disco compresse in formato xz. L'uso dell'algoritmo LZMA mostra un livello di compressione superiore, a fronte di un carico CPU maggiore, rispetto all'algoritmo LZO precedentemente utilizzato. Per l'implementazione dell'algoritmo LZMA \u00e8 stata scelta la libreria liblzma, diventata tristemente nota dopo la scoperta di un malware che era stato inserito appositamente da un malintenzionato, il quale era riuscito a ottenere lo stato di manutentore. Il patch con il supporto per LZMA in dd_rescue \u00e8 stato preparato da Dmitrij Ivanov dell'HSE (Alta scuola di economia).
