Linus Torvalds ha accettato nel kernel di Linux una modifica che rimuove l'implementazione del file system ReiserFS, dichiarato obsoleto l'anno scorso e programmato per essere rimosso nel 2025. La modifica \u00e8 stata accettata nel ramo su cui si basa il kernel 6.13 (il rilascio \u00e8 atteso all'inizio di febbraio). La ragione principale della rimozione di ReiserFS \u00e8 stato il desiderio di ridurre il carico di lavoro per la manutenzione nel kernel delle modifiche relative ai diversi file system, come il passaggio a una nuova API per il montaggio, iomap e folios. La base utenti di ReiserFS \u00e8 considerata trascurabile. <\/p>\n

Tra i problemi con ReiserFS, \u00e8 stata anche menzionata la stagnazione nella manutenzione di questo file system, il problema irrisolto del 2038 e la mancanza di funzionalit\u00e0 di alta disponibilit\u00e0 offerte dai moderni file system per proteggere da danni in caso di shutdown imprevisti o compromissioni. L'ultimo grande distribuzione che supporta ReiserFS \u00e8 rimasta openSUSE, ma due anni fa gli sviluppatori di openSUSE hanno interrotto il supporto per questo file system nel repository Tumbleweed. In SUSE, il supporto per ReiserFS \u00e8 stato interrotto sei anni fa. Una pull request per rimuovere ReiserFS dal kernel 6.13 \u00e8 stata inviata da un dipendente di SUSE.
