Linus Torvalds ha accettato nel kernel Linux una modifica che rimuove l'implementazione del file system ReiserFS, dichiarato obsoleto lo scorso anno e programmato per la rimozione nel 2025. La modifica \u00e8 stata accettata nel ramo da cui \u00e8 generato il kernel 6.13 (il rilascio \u00e8 previsto per inizio febbraio). Una delle ragioni principali della rimozione di ReiserFS \u00e8 il desiderio di ridurre il carico di lavoro per la manutenzione nel kernel delle modifiche che riguardano diversi file system, come il passaggio a una nuova API per il montaggio, iomap e folios. La base utenti di ReiserFS \u00e8 valutata come insignificante. <\/p>\n

Tra i problemi con ReiserFS \u00e8 stata menzionata anche la stagnazione nel supporto di questo filesystem, il problema irrisolto del 2038 e l'assenza di funzionalit\u00e0 di tolleranza ai guasti, che i moderni filesystem offrono per proteggere i dati da eventuali danni in caso di arresto anomalo o compromissione. L'ultimo grande distributore a supportare ReiserFS \u00e8 stato openSUSE, ma due anni fa gli sviluppatori di openSUSE hanno interrotto il supporto di questo filesystem nel repository Tumbleweed. In SUSE, il supporto per ReiserFS \u00e8 stato interrotto sei anni fa. Una richiesta di eliminazione di ReiserFS nel kernel 6.13 \u00e8 stata inviata da un dipendente dell'azienda SUSE.
