L'azienda Checkpoint ha comunicato di aver individuato un malware chiamato GodLoader, scritto in GDScript e che utilizza il motore di gioco open source Godot per la sua esecuzione (il motore Godot \u00e8 impiegato come piattaforma di lancio). La scrittura di codice in GDScript ha consentito la diffusione di programmi dannosi tra gli appassionati di videogiochi sotto forma di mod per giochi e risorse di gioco in formato pck, elaborate dal motore Godot. L'uso di GDScript ha anche permesso di non dipendere dal sistema operativo installato dall'utente (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android e iOS). <\/p>\n

Poich\u00e9 per eseguire programmi in GDScript \u00e8 necessario avere il motore Godot, l'obiettivo principale dell'attacco erano gli utenti di giochi su questo motore. Le prime varianti del nuovo malware risalgono al 29 giugno. Sono state registrate oltre 17.000 sistemiche colpite da GodLoader. Di solito, le vittime dell'attacco scaricavano archivi pck non verificati da risorse esterne e repository falsi su GitHub con GodLoader integrato. Dopo l'esecuzione dello script contenuto nell'archivio in GDScript, GodLoader procedeva a caricare e avviare componenti dannosi aggiuntivi, effettuando azioni come mining di criptovalute e invio di password e chiavi di accesso memorizzate dal sistema dell'utente.
