L'obiettivo del progetto \u00e8 la creazione del sistema di sandboxing pi\u00f9 veloce per l'isolamento di singoli processi, utilizzando la virtualizzazione hardware. Il codice del progetto \u00e8 scritto nei linguaggi C e C++, e distribuito con licenza GPLv3 (per chi non \u00e8 in grado di soddisfare i requisiti della GPLv3 \u00e8 disponibile una licenza commerciale).    <\/p>\n<p>TinyKVM \u00e8 progettato per l'esecuzione isolata di qualsiasi programma console per Linux con prestazioni simili a quelle di un'esecuzione normale. L'overhead per ogni chiamata di sistema \u00e8 di circa 2 microsecondi. Come esempio di applicazione del progetto si menziona l'ulteriore isolamento dei processi nei sistemi di caching e elaborazione delle richieste web. TinyKVM \u00e8 stato sviluppato per sostituire l'emulatore libriscv, utilizzato per isolare l'elaborazione di ogni richiesta web sulla piattaforma Varnish. \u00c8 stata inoltre creata una versione della libreria libvmod, che consente di eseguire moduli per Varnish utilizzando TinyKVM.    <center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\u00c8 stato presentato TinyKVM per la virtualizzazione a livello di singoli processi.\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/f561d37ddc61ac392508c8301906cae5.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\u00c8 stato presentato TinyKVM per la virtualizzazione a livello di singoli processi.\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/f55fbfe95625c87659ff985675213362.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/>  <\/center>    <\/p>\n<p>Quando viene avviato tramite TinyKVM, il codice macchina dei programmi viene eseguito senza strati di emulazione sulla CPU e viene regolato tramite le API dell'hypervisor KVM, il che consente di escludere l'overhead e raggiungere prestazioni vicine a quelle dell'esecuzione senza virtualizzazione. Le principali caratteristiche di TinyKVM sono:     <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Limitazione del tempo massimo di esecuzione. Un programma pu\u00f2 essere fermato forzatamente dopo il timeout, senza chiamare gestori di segnali e thread.\n<li class=\"l\"> Limitazione dell'uso della memoria.\n<li class=\"l\"> Possibilit\u00e0 di fork di istanze non inizializzate <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/prohoster.info\/it\/vps\/\"   title=\"macchine virtuali\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2200\">macchine virtuali<\/a> da un'unica istanza inizializzata del programma isolato. Le copie delle macchine virtuali vengono create in modalit\u00e0 copy-on-write, il che consente di risparmiare notevolmente memoria, conservando solo un'istanza dei dati condivisi.\n<li class=\"l\"> I processi ramificati possono essere ripristinati allo stato precedente (ad esempio, un gestore di richieste http ramificato pu\u00f2 tornare allo stato originale dopo l'elaborazione di ogni richiesta senza un riavvio). Un'istanza di un processo isolato pu\u00f2 anche essere ripristinata allo stato di un'altra macchina virtuale, e non quella da cui \u00e8 stata ramificata, ma in questo caso i costi generali saranno pi\u00f9 elevati, poich\u00e9 sar\u00e0 necessaria una modifica della tabella delle pagine di memoria.\n<li class=\"l\"> La possibilit\u00e0 di creare pagine di memoria statiche durante l'inizializzazione, adatte anche per runtime sofisticati, come nel linguaggio Go. In questo caso, le modifiche sono consentite solo per le pagine in modalit\u00e0 copy-on-write.\n<li class=\"l\"> Supporto per il debug remoto con GDB. \u00c8 possibile il debug in tempo reale con ripresa dell'esecuzione.    <\/ul>\n<p> L'ambiente ospite TinyKVM forma un kernel ridotto, protetto da modifiche, costruito con l'inclusione della protezione delle pagine di memoria e utilizza SMAP (Supervisor Mode Access Prevention) e SMEP (Supervisor Mode Execution Prevention) per un'ulteriore isolamento tra il kernel e lo spazio utente. TinyKVM utilizza pagine di memoria grandi (hugepage) per migliorare le prestazioni. Le chiamate di sistema invokeable dai programmi vengono intercettate dall'emulatore e reindirizzate all'ambiente host (il ritardo per l'elaborazione e la traduzione della chiamata emulata \u00e8 di circa 2 microsecondi).
