In Fedora Linux 43 sui sistemi con architettura x86 si prevede di mantenere solo la possibilit\u00e0 di utilizzare le tabelle delle partizioni GPT (GUID Partition Table) in tutte le installazioni di Fedora che utilizzano UEFI. Questa modifica non \u00e8 ancora stata esaminata dal comitato FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), responsabile della parte tecnica dello sviluppo della distribuzione Fedora. Se la proposta sar\u00e0 approvata, il supporto per l'installazione di Fedora in modalit\u00e0 UEFI su dischi con tabelle di partizione MBR (Master Boot Record) verr\u00e0 interrotto sui sistemi x86, ma sar\u00e0 mantenuto sui sistemi ARM e RISC-V. <\/p>\n

Tra le ragioni per l'interruzione del supporto MBR si cita la bassa affidabilit\u00e0 del boot in tali configurazioni, la diversit\u00e0 del supporto MBR nei firmware e la mancanza di adeguati test in Fedora (nella documentazione su GRUB2 \u00e8 previsto l'uso di GPT per UEFI). Si presume che mantenendo nel programma di installazione Anaconda solo il supporto GPT nei sistemi x86 sar\u00e0 possibile escludere i crash durante la fase di avvio causati dai malfunzionamenti di efibootmgr. L'interruzione del supporto MBR ridurr\u00e0 anche il carico per le persone che si occupano del supporto agli utenti, semplificando la manutenzione e il testing. <\/p>\n

Inizialmente, il supporto MBR in modalit\u00e0 UEFI \u00e8 stato aggiunto in Fedora nel 2019 per compatibilit\u00e0 con le piattaforme cloud, come AWS, che non supportavano GPT. Attualmente, le piattaforme cloud hanno eliminato questa limitazione e il supporto MBR in questo contesto ha perso rilevanza.
