Nella base di codice da cui \u00e8 stato realizzato il rilascio di Mesa 25.2, \u00e8 stata rimossa la supporto per l'infrastruttura DRI2 (Direct Rendering Infrastructure), sostituita dall'interfaccia DRI3, che utilizza DMA-BUF per consentire l'accesso diretto alla scheda video. La motivazione \u00e8 che l'interfaccia DRI3 esiste da oltre 10 anni, DRI2 \u00e8 obsoleta e tutti i driver GPU supportati hanno da tempo implementato l'interfaccia DRI3. Con Mesa 24.2, l'uso di DRI2 era gi\u00e0 stato mascherato dall'opzione «legacy-x11» e in un anno non ha sollevato particolari questioni. <\/p>\n
Si segnala che in futuro Mesa prevede di eliminare anche il supporto per altri meccanismi che hanno perso rilevanza dopo l'introduzione di DMA-BUF. In particolare, \u00e8 prevista la cessazione del supporto per l'estensione EGL EGL_WL_bind_wayland_display, sviluppata per Wayland.
