Per identificare le applicazioni che creano file che occupano spazio su disco nella directory personale dell'utente, \u00e8 stato sviluppato un processo in background chiamato whomade, che monitora l'apparizione di nuovi file tramite il meccanismo fanotify. Il progetto \u00e8 scritto in C++ e distribuito con licenza GPLv3. <\/p>\n

I dati sono memorizzati in un database SQLite3, che viene periodicamente pulito da informazioni obsolete (ad esempio, dati sui file eliminati). Per implementare la funzionalit\u00e0 richiesta, al momento whomade monitora attraverso fanotify l'apertura di file, filtrando successivamente gli eventi non necessari, invece di monitorare direttamente le operazioni di creazione di file. Sono necessari i diritti di root per l'esecuzione (richiesti per fanotify). <\/p>\n

Agli utenti dell'ambiente desktop MATE \u00e8 fornito un'estensione per il gestore di file Caja, che visualizza le informazioni sul processo che ha creato il file selezionato.
