Per identificare le applicazioni che generano file che consumano spazio su disco nella home dell'utente, \u00e8 stato preparato un processo in background chiamato whomade, che monitora l'apparizione di nuovi file tramite il meccanismo fanotify. Il progetto \u00e8 scritto in C++ e distribuito con licenza GPLv3. <\/p>\n

I dati sono memorizzati in un database SQLite3, che viene periodicamente ripulito da informazioni non pi\u00f9 rilevanti (ad esempio, dati sui file eliminati). Per implementare la funzionalit\u00e0 richiesta, attualmente whomade monitora tramite fanotify l'apertura dei file, filtrando successivamente gli eventi non necessari, invece di monitorare direttamente le operazioni di creazione dei file. Sono necessari i diritti di root per l'esecuzione (richiesti per fanotify). <\/p>\n

Agli utenti dell'ambiente desktop MATE \u00e8 fornita un'estensione per il file manager Caja, che mostra informazioni sul processo che ha creato il file selezionato.
