Nella prossima versione di Ubuntu 25.10, il rilascio del quale \u00e8 previsto per il 9 ottobre, \u00e8 stato approvato l'uso predefinito dello strumento Dracut per la creazione delle immagini del RAM disk iniziale (initrd), al posto del pacchetto initramfs-tools, il cui sviluppo \u00e8 stato interrotto negli ultimi anni e si limita al supporto. Poich\u00e9 lo sviluppo della versione 25.10 \u00e8 congelato da met\u00e0 agosto, non consentendo l'aggiunta di nuove funzionalit\u00e0, il team responsabile delle versioni ha dato un'eccezione per la transizione a Dracut. Attualmente, il pacchetto initramfs-tools \u00e8 gi\u00e0 stato sostituito da dracut nei metapacchetti. <\/p>\n

La transizione a Dracut risolver\u00e0 problemi come l'impossibilit\u00e0 di utilizzare systemd in initrd, la mancanza di supporto per NVMe over Fabric (NVM-oF), l'eccesso di codice shell in initrd e la complessit\u00e0 del supporto a causa della gestione separata di initrd e della root filesystem.
