Nella versione di Ubuntu 25.10, il cui rilascio \u00e8 previsto per il 9 ottobre, \u00e8 stato approvato l'uso predefinito dello strumento Dracut per la creazione delle immagini del disco RAM iniziale (initrd) invece del pacchetto initramfs-tools, il cui sviluppo negli ultimi anni \u00e8 stato sospeso e limitato alla manutenzione. Poich\u00e9 lo sviluppo della versione 25.10 \u00e8 in fase di congelamento dalla met\u00e0 di agosto, senza possibilit\u00e0 di aggiunta di nuove funzionalit\u00e0, \u00e8 stata concessa un'eccezione per passare a Dracut dal team responsabile dei rilasci. Attualmente, il pacchetto initramfs-tools \u00e8 gi\u00e0 stato sostituito da dracut nei meta-pacchetti. <\/p>\n

Il passaggio a Dracut permetter\u00e0 di risolvere problemi come l'impossibilit\u00e0 di utilizzare systemd in initrd, la mancanza di supporto per NVMe over Fabric (NVM-oF), l'abbondanza di codice shell in initrd e la difficolt\u00e0 di manutenzione dovuta al lavoro separato tra initrd e il filesystem radice.
