Dopo un anno e mezzo di sviluppo, \u00e8 stata rilasciata la versione 0.99 del progetto PortableGL, che sviluppa un'implementazione software dell'API grafica OpenGL 3.x, interamente scritta in linguaggio C. Teoricamente, PortableGL pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato in qualsiasi applicazione che accetti texture o framebuffer come input. Il codice \u00e8 strutturato in un unico file header e distribuito con licenza MIT. <\/p>\n

Il progetto ha definito obiettivi come portabilit\u00e0, conformit\u00e0 all'API OpenGL, facilit\u00e0 d'uso, codice semplice e alte prestazioni. Tra i campi di applicazione si citano l'insegnamento di concetti di costruzione delle API grafiche, l'uso per lavorare con la grafica 3D su sistemi privi di GPU e l'integrazione del supporto OpenGL in sistemi operativi specifici, per i quali non \u00e8 stato portato il pacchetto Mesa3D. Tra i progetti esistenti che utilizzano PortableGL, si segnala il porting del gioco simile a Minecraft chiamato Craft. <\/p>\n

Nella nuova versione continua il potenziamento delle funzionalit\u00e0 e delle capacit\u00e0 di OpenGL, \u00e8 stata implementata la supporto per le chiamate a glColorMask() e glDebugMessageCallback(), \u00e8 stato aggiunto il macro PGL_UNSAFE per disabilitare il controllo degli errori, e il macro PGLDEF per definire i prototipi degli attributi, \u00e8 stata rielaborata l'uso dei tipi OpenGL nell'API pubblica.
