Multikernel consente di eseguire pi\u00f9 istanze indipendenti del kernel Linux su un unico computer fisico, che hanno accesso diretto alle risorse hardware e possono essere utilizzate per avviare pi\u00f9 ambienti di sistema isolati. Il progetto \u00e8 stato creato da Multikernel Technologies, fondata e guidata da Cong Wang, il quale supervisiona la sottosistema di controllo del traffico (TC, Traffic Control) nel kernel Linux.        <\/p>\n<p>Per avviare e gestire i kernel, \u00e8 stata proposta una chiamata kexec avanzata, che, a differenza del kexec classico, non \u00e8 limitata alla sostituzione del kernel in esecuzione e consente di avviare ulteriori istanze del kernel da eseguire in parallelo. Per il monitoraggio e il debug delle istanze del kernel avviate, \u00e8 stato implementato l'interfaccia \"\/proc\/multikernel\", mentre per lo scambio di messaggi tra i kernel e la coordinazione delle operazioni \u00e8 stato proposto un framework di comunicazione Multikernel IPI.      <center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Presentato Multikernel, un meccanismo per l&#039;esecuzione simultanea di pi\u00f9 kernel Linux\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/80fde050181a23d5b2cb618204283385.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center>      <\/p>\n<p>Multikernel \u00e8 presentato come una nuova architettura di isolamento che si colloca tra la virtualizzazione tramite hypervisor e l'isolamento dei container basato su un kernel condiviso. A differenza della virtualizzazione, Multikernel non richiede l'uso di un hypervisor, semplifica la creazione di ambienti per l'esecuzione isolata di singole applicazioni e consente di raggiungere alte prestazioni senza l'overhead della virtualizzazione. Questo \u00e8 stato ottenuto grazie all'esclusione dell'overhead tipico della virtualizzazione, derivante dai gestori di trasferimento di controllo tra macchine virtuali (VM exit), dalla traduzione IOMMU e dall'intervento dell'hypervisor nell'esecuzione di operazioni privilegiate. \u00c8 supportato l'allocazione dinamica delle risorse per gli ambienti avviati e si assicura una prestazione prevedibile.         <\/p>\n<p>L'esecuzione simultanea di pi\u00f9 kernel avviene senza virtualizzazione, utilizzando un gestore SMP che distribuisce le CPU disponibili tra le istanze dei kernel Linux.
