Il lead developer di XLibre, Enrico Weigelt, ha proposto una discussione sulla realizzazione di un'estensione Vulkan per X11, che consentirebbe di combinare la trasparenza di rete a livello di protocollo X11 con il rendering dell'interfaccia su GPU con bassa latenza. \u00c8 prevista la creazione di un layer intermedio libvulkan, che sul client si occuper\u00e0 del rendering dei dati del protocollo X attraverso la GPU. Il meccanismo \u00e8 proposto come alternativa a GLX e DRI. <\/p>\n

La proposta \u00e8 ancora in fase di discussione iniziale; Enrico spera di chiarire con la comunit\u00e0 la necessit\u00e0 di questa soluzione. Attualmente il progetto sta attraversando una vasta ristrutturazione per eliminare i livelli intermedi di astrazione, l'eredit\u00e0 dei vecchi standard del linguaggio C e le soluzioni legate a Wayland.
