Dal codice sorgente del compositore Mutter \u00e8 stata rimossa tutta la parte che supportava il protocollo X11. Contestualmente, i componenti per il supporto di X11 sono stati eliminati dal codice sorgente della shell GNOME. Nella versione di GNOME 50 prevista per la primavera del prossimo anno, il supporto per l'esecuzione su server X sar\u00e0 completamente interrotto. La preparazione per la rimozione del codice relativo a X11 \u00e8 stata effettuata con il rilascio autunnale di GNOME 49 \u2014 il supporto per X11 \u00e8 stato disabilitato di default in gnome-session, mutter e gnome-shell, ma il codice \u00e8 stato mantenuto e le possibilit\u00e0 di ripristino dei componenti per supportare X11 durante il processo di compilazione sono state preservate. Nei sistemi operativi, il supporto per la sessione GNOME basata su X11 \u00e8 stato interrotto in Ubuntu 25.10, Fedora 43 e RHEL 10.
