DAXFS utilizza la memoria volatile per la memorizzazione dei dati, funziona in modalit\u00e0 di sola lettura e ricorda per funzionalit\u00e0 i file system semplificati ramfs e tmpfs. Il modulo del kernel con l'implementazione di DAXFS, cos\u00ec come l'utilit\u00e0 mkdaxfs per la creazione del file system, sono stati pubblicati sotto licenza GPLv2. Dopo la revisione, si sta considerando la possibilit\u00e0 di integrare DAXFS nella composizione principale del kernel.      <\/p>\n<p>La caratteristica chiave del nuovo file system \u00e8 l'uso del sottosistema DAX (Direct Access) per operare bypassando la cache delle pagine e accedendo direttamente alla memoria fisica condivisa. In ramfs e tmpfs, il contenuto \u00e8 memorizzato nella cache delle pagine, il che, quando si utilizza un file system in pi\u00f9 contenitori o core avviati tramite la tecnologia Multikernel, porta a posizionare pi\u00f9 copie di dati nella memoria fisica. Il riempimento di ramfs e tmpfs richiede inoltre l'esecuzione di operazioni di copia superflue senza la possibilit\u00e0 di eseguire il mapping di un'area di memoria esistente.    <\/p>\n<p>L'accesso diretto alla memoria in DAXFS consente di escludere operazioni di copia superflue e di organizzare il funzionamento bypassando lo stack tradizionale di input\/output basato su dispositivi a blocchi e meccanismi di buffering, riducendo anche la frammentazione dell'allocazione della memoria durante la condivisione di un file system in diversi contenitori e core multikernel. DAXFS funziona in modalit\u00e0 Zero-Copy e restituisce direttamente il contenuto dei file dalla memoria senza duplicare inutilmente i dati nella cache delle pagine e con la possibilit\u00e0 di fare mapping di aree continue di memoria fisica in ciascun contenitore o core.
