Gli sviluppatori di Xfce4 \u2013 uno dei pi\u00f9 antichi ambienti desktop per Linux \u2013 hanno annunciato l'inizio dei lavori su un nuovo compositore che intende sostituire l'attuale gestore delle finestre di Xfce4 per i sistemi basati su Wayland. Il progetto \u00e8 stato denominato Xfwl4. Si prevede che dovr\u00e0 replicare al massimo la funzionalit\u00e0 e il comportamento dell'attuale Xfwm4 (per quanto possibile implementarlo su Wayland). Per lavorare sul progetto \u00e8 stato assunto lo sviluppatore Brian Terricone, che collabora con il team di Xfce4 da tempo.<\/p>\n

Inizialmente si pensava di aggiungere il supporto per Wayland all'attuale gestore di finestre Xfwm4. Tuttavia, gli sviluppatori si sono presto imbattuti in una serie di problemi che rendevano difficile supportare simultaneamente X11 e Wayland all'interno dello stesso progetto. Per questo motivo, \u00e8 stata presa la decisione di creare un nuovo compositore Wayland all'interno di Xfce4. \u00c8 stato scelto il linguaggio di programmazione Rust e la libreria smithay<\/a>, che implementa un insieme base di funzioni per la creazione di un compositore per Wayland.
