Gli sviluppatori del progetto T2 Linux, che sviluppa un gestore di pacchetti e una piattaforma per la creazione di distribuzioni Linux, hanno annunciato il ripristino nel server X.Org del supporto per l'architettura di accelerazione 2D XAA (XFree86 Acceleration Architecture), sviluppata nel 1996 per sfruttare l'accelerazione hardware delle operazioni grafiche 2D nel server X. Il supporto per XAA era stato rimosso dal server X nel 2012, dopo che la maggior parte dei driver DDX attuali erano stati migrati alle architetture EXA, SNA, GLAMOR o UXA. <\/p>\n

Il lavoro di ripristino del supporto per XAA \u00e8 stato condotto con l'obiettivo di velocizzare le prestazioni delle distribuzioni su sistemi vintage e retro, oltre che su workstation classiche fornite con sistemi Unix. Il supporto restituito XAA \u00e8 stato testato con schede video ATi Mach-64, ATi Rage-128, SiS, Trident, Cirrus, Matrox (Millennium\/G450), Permedia2, Tseng ET6000 e Sun Creator\/Elite 3D. Si osserva che l'implementazione di XAA ha permesso di migliorare la fluidit\u00e0 del movimento delle finestre, ridurre il carico sulla CPU e garantire un supporto corretto del framebuffer in modalit\u00e0 TrueColor (24 bit per canale colore).
