GNU Octave pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato per risolvere problemi lineari, equazioni non lineari e differenziali, calcoli con numeri complessi e matrici, visualizzazione dei dati, svolgimento di esperimenti matematici. Il codice \u00e8 scritto in C++ (interfaccia su Qt) e distribuito con licenza GPLv3.     <\/p>\n<p>Tra le novit\u00e0 del nuovo rilascio:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata aggiunta una nuova comando al gestore di pacchetti pkg per la ricerca \"pkg search foo bar baz\". Nel comando \"pkg install\" \u00e8 stata implementata la determinazione automatica se l'argomento fornito \u00e8 un file locale, un URL o un nome di pacchetto. \u00c8 stata inclusa la cache locale dei metadata dei pacchetti e la verifica dei pacchetti scaricati tramite hash SHA256.\n<li class=\"l\"> L'interfaccia di gestione dei file (File Browse) \u00e8 stata suddivisa in due schede \u2014 una per la navigazione nel contenuto del file system, e l'altra per visualizzare e gestire tutti i file aperti nell'editor.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nella finestra di dialogo di ricerca file \u00e8 stata aggiunta un'elenco delle ricerche effettuate in precedenza e implementata la possibilit\u00e0 di cercare file tramite pi\u00f9 maschere.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nell'interfaccia grafica sono state utilizzate icone vettoriali in formato SVG e fornita per impostazione predefinita l'interfaccia della riga di comando di Octave.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nelle impostazioni sono state aggiunte opzioni per disattivare lo screensaver e per utilizzare come predefinito il catalogo corrente in cui \u00e8 stato avviato l'editor nella finestra di dialogo di apertura file.\n<li class=\"l\"> L'operazione di stampa in file PDF \u00e8 stata accelerata del 25%.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nella visualizzazione \u00e8 stato migliorato il supporto per l'alpha blending sui sistemi con le nuove versioni di OpenGL.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stato migliorato il supporto per gli oggetti definiti tramite la parola chiave \"classdef\". Quando si accede agli elementi di un oggetto tramite punto (oggetto.element), ora viene prima verificata l'esistenza di propriet\u00e0 con il nome specificato e, se la propriet\u00e0 \u00e8 assente, si cercano i nomi dei metodi, il che corrisponde al comportamento di MatLab.\n<li class=\"l\"> Le operazioni di convoluzione su array con un numero di colonne superiore al numero di righe (array di vettori) sono state significativamente accelerate (dal 10% fino a 150 volte a seconda delle dimensioni e della forma).\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata aggiunta la possibilit\u00e0 di eseguire la trasmissione (broadcasting, operazioni su array di diverse dimensioni) per tipi speciali di matrici, come matrici sparse, diagonali e di permutazione. Tra l'altro, \u00e8 stato implementato il supporto per operazioni miste tra matrici sparse e complete, cos\u00ec come tra matrici diagonali e vettori comuni.\n<li class=\"l\"> Sono state apportate modifiche per migliorare la compatibilit\u00e0 con Matlab. Nella funzione cumprod, cumsum, min, max, cummin, cummax, prod, sum, sumsq, bounds, center, meansq, range, statistics e zscore \u00e8 stato aggiunto il supporto per i parametri \"all\", \"vecdim\" e \"nanflag\".\n<li class=\"l\"> La performance delle funzioni sum, cumsum e sumsq \u00e8 aumentata fino a 6 volte. Il funzionamento \u00e8 stato accelerato fino a 4,5 volte e il consumo di memoria ridotto fino a 3,5 volte nella funzione randi.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nella funzione sum \u00e8 stata implementata una modalit\u00e0 di lavoro con precisione aumentata nei calcoli.
