GNU Octave pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato per risolvere problemi lineari, equazioni non lineari e differenziali, calcoli con numeri complessi e matrici, visualizzazione di dati e conduzione di esperimenti matematici. Il codice \u00e8 scritto in C++ (interfaccia in Qt) e distribuito con licenza GPLv3.     <\/p>\n<p>Tra le novit\u00e0 della nuova versione:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata aggiunta una nuova comando al gestore di pacchetti pkg per la ricerca &#171;pkg search foo bar baz&#187;. Nel comando &#171;pkg install&#187; \u00e8 stata implementata la rilevazione automatica se l'argomento fornito \u00e8 un file locale, un URL o un nome di pacchetto. \u00c8 stata inclusa la cache locale per i metadati dei pacchetti e la verifica dei pacchetti scaricati tramite hash SHA256.\n<li class=\"l\"> L'interfaccia di gestione dei file (File Browse) \u00e8 stata suddivisa in due schede &#8212; una per la navigazione nel contenuto del file system e l'altra per visualizzare e gestire tutti i file aperti nell'editor.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nella finestra di ricerca file \u00e8 stata aggiunta una lista delle ricerche precedentemente effettuate e implementata la funzione di ricerca di file con pi\u00f9 maschere.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nell'interfaccia grafica sono utilizzate icone vettoriali in formato SVG e fornito per impostazione predefinita l'interfaccia della riga di comando di Octave.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nelle impostazioni sono state aggiunte opzioni per disabilitare lo screensaver e impostare come predefinito il dialogo di apertura dei file nella cartella corrente da cui \u00e8 stato avviato l'editor.\n<li class=\"l\"> L'operazione di stampa in PDF \u00e8 stata accelerata del 25%.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nella visualizzazione \u00e8 migliorato il supporto per l'alpha blending sui sistemi con le nuove versioni di OpenGL.\n<li class=\"l\"> Migliorato il supporto per gli oggetti definiti attraverso la parola chiave &#171;classdef&#187;. Quando si accede agli elementi di un oggetto tramite il punto (oggetto.elemento), ora viene prima verificata l'esistenza di propriet\u00e0 con il nome specificato, e se la propriet\u00e0 non \u00e8 presente, si controlla la presenza dei metodi, in conformit\u00e0 con il comportamento di MatLab.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata notevolmente accelerata (dal 10% fino a 150 volte a seconda delle dimensioni e della forma) l'esecuzione delle operazioni di convoluzione su array in cui il numero di colonne supera il numero di righe (array di vettori).\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata aggiunta la possibilit\u00e0 di eseguire la trasmissione (broadcasting, operazioni su array di diverse dimensioni) per i tipi speciali di matrici, come matrici sparse, diagonali e per colonne. Tra l'altro, \u00e8 stato implementato il supporto per operazioni miste tra matrici sparse e complete, cos\u00ec come tra matrici diagonali e vettori normali.\n<li class=\"l\"> Apportate modifiche per migliorare la compatibilit\u00e0 con Matlab. Nelle funzioni cumprod, cumsum, min, max, cummin, cummax, prod, sum, sumsq bounds, center, meansq, range, statistics e zscore \u00e8 stato aggiunto il supporto per i parametri &#171;all&#187;, &#171;vecdim&#187; e &#171;nanflag&#187;.\n<li class=\"l\"> Le prestazioni delle funzioni sum, cumsum e sumsq sono state migliorate fino a 6 volte. La funzione randi \u00e8 stata accelerata fino a 4,5 volte e il consumo di memoria \u00e8 stato ridotto fino a 3,5 volte.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nella funzione sum \u00e8 stata implementata una modalit\u00e0 di calcolo ad alta precisione.
