D7VK funziona tramite la traduzione delle chiamate all'API Vulkan e consente di eseguire giochi retro legati alle API Direct3D 3, 5, 6 e 7 su Linux utilizzando Wine. Il codice del progetto \u00e8 scritto in C++ e distribuito con licenza Zlib. Come base per lo sviluppo \u00e8 stato utilizzato il codice del backend d3d9 del progetto DXVK \u2014 D7VK converte le API Direct3D 3, 5, 6 e 7 in chiamate Direct3D 9, che vengono quindi tradotte nell'API Vulkan. Lo sviluppatore non intende includere D7VK nel DXVK, come \u00e8 avvenuto con le implementazioni delle Direct3D 8 e 9 sopra Vulkan.<\/p>\n<p>La nuova versione propone un'implementazione del metodo ProcessVertices utilizzando la CPU, che ha risolto i problemi di rendering e geometria in molti giochi, tra cui Forsaken, Resident Evil, Praetorians, Hidden &amp; Dangerous, Escape from Monkey Island e Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation.<\/p>\n<p>Il meccanismo di output proxy (proxied presentation) \u00e8 stato sostituito da un'implementazione (legacy presentation) che supporta i metodi di compositing utilizzati nei giochi pi\u00f9 vecchi, impiegando DDraw per sovrapporre elementi 2D ai contenuti 3D.
