Lo sviluppatore M A Muqtadir, coinvolto nel tema di design di Ubuntu Yaru e nella distribuzione Vanilla OS, ha presentato i primi risultati dell'esperimento di ricreazione dell'interfaccia utente Unity utilizzando componenti moderni dello stack GNOME e il protocollo Wayland. Il prototipo mostrato \u00e8 costruito su un gestore di composizione Wayfire, che utilizza Wayland e consente la creazione di interfacce utente poco gourmand di risorse con effetti 3D nello stile dei plugin 3D per Compiz.
