Il comitato che gestisce lo sviluppo del set di compilatori GCC (GCC Steering Committee) ha approvato l'inclusione del backend per WebAssembly nel codice sorgente di GCC. Questa decisione riguarda l'approvazione generale della fornitura del backend WebAssembly come parte di GCC. Le questioni relative all'approvazione dell'implementazione e all'accettazione del codice trasmesso saranno trattate separatamente dal team responsabile della revisione.<\/p>\n

Il backend consentir\u00e0 di utilizzare GCC per compilare il codice sorgente in C\/C++ in codice intermedio WebAssembly. La compilazione in WebAssembly pu\u00f2 essere utilizzata per l'integrazione con progetti JavaScript, per l'esecuzione in un browser web, per l'utilizzo in Node.js o per la creazione di applicazioni autonome multi-piattaforma eseguite tramite un runtime WASM. Il backend funge da generatore di codice che utilizza codice intermedio preparato dai frontend ufficiali di GCC, che analizzano il codice sorgente nelle lingue di programmazione supportate e forniscono ottimizzazioni specifiche per esse. <\/p>\n

La realizzazione proposta per l'inclusione in GCC utilizza come dipendenze esterne gli strumenti wabt, l'implementazione di libc per WebAssembly (wasi-libc) e il linker wasm-ld. Non tutte le funzionalit\u00e0 pianificate sono state implementate, ad esempio manca il supporto per le informazioni di debug, i tipi di riferimento, le tabelle, le eccezioni, la strutturazione e le operazioni setjump\/longjump.
