Nella base di codice di FreeBSD-CURRENT, alla base della quale si forma il ramo FreeBSD 16, \u00e8 stata adottata una modifica che rimuove dall'installazione di base gli ultimi componenti rimasti distribuiti sotto licenza GPL \u2014 gli strumenti diff3 e dialog. Il programma diff3 \u00e8 stato sostituito con un equivalente del progetto OpenBSD, distribuito sotto licenza BSD, e per sostituire dialog \u00e8 stata sviluppata appositamente per FreeBSD l'utilit\u00e0 bsddialog. L'installer \u00e8 stato migrato a bsddialog quattro anni fa e l'ultima applicazione legata a GNU dialog era l'utilit\u00e0 dpv, dichiarata obsoleta pi\u00f9 di due anni fa e ora rimossa insieme a GNU dialog.
