VeraCrypt si distingue per la sostituzione dell'algoritmo RIPEMD-160 utilizzato in TrueCrypt con SHA-512 e SHA-256, per un aumento del numero di iterazioni di hashing, per la semplificazione del processo di compilazione per Linux e macOS, e per la risoluzione dei problemi emersi durante l'audit del codice sorgente di TrueCrypt. Il codice sviluppato dal progetto VeraCrypt \u00e8 distribuito con licenza Apache 2.0, mentre i materiali prelevati da TrueCrypt continuano ad essere forniti con la licenza TrueCrypt License 3.0. Le versioni pronte vengono create per Linux, FreeBSD, Windows e macOS.<\/p>\n<p>Tra le novit\u00e0 nella nuova versione:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Sono state risolte diverse vulnerabilit\u00e0: overflow del buffer (CVE-2026-77372) durante la deserializzazione delle richieste in un servizio privilegiato. Elevazione dei privilegi a root a causa del malfunzionamento dell'installer con i file temporanei nella directory \/tmp. Conservazione dei dati decrittografati dopo il distacco su macOS utilizzando FUSE-T (CVE-2026-108982).
