Di recente, «Kaspersky Lab» ha rivelato un attacco informatico insolito, di cui potrebbero essere state vittime circa un milione di utenti di computer portatili e desktop ASUS. Le indagini hanno mostrato che i criminali informatici hanno aggiunto un backdoor all'utility ASUS Live Update, utilizzata per aggiornare BIOS, UEFI e software per schede madri e notebook dell'azienda taiwanese. «Un numero limitato di dispositivi ha ricevuto codice malevolo attraverso un attacco complesso ai nostri server<\/a> Live Update nel tentativo di colpire un gruppo molto ristretto e specifico di utenti,— si legge nel comunicato stampa di ASUS. — Il servizio di supporto ASUS sta collaborando con gli utenti colpiti e offre assistenza per rimuovere le minacce alla sicurezza».<\/p>\n

«Un numero limitato» contraddice in qualche modo le informazioni di «Kaspersky Lab», che ha dichiarato di aver trovato malware (denominato ShadowHammer) su 57mila computer. Tuttavia, secondo gli esperti di sicurezza, molti altri dispositivi potrebbero essere stati compromessi.<\/p>\n

Nel comunicato stampa di ASUS si afferma che il backdoor \u00e8 stato rimosso dall'ultima versione dello strumento Live Update. ASUS ha anche comunicato di aver implementato una crittografia completa e strumenti di verifica della sicurezza aggiuntivi per proteggere i clienti. Inoltre, ASUS ha sviluppato uno strumento che, secondo la sua affermazione, determiner\u00e0 se un sistema specifico \u00e8 stato compromesso e ha invitato gli utenti preoccupati a contattare il suo supporto clienti.<\/p>\n
