Inoltre, non esisteva uno standard unico di metodi software, a parte API chiuse come NVIDIA OptiX. Ora che c'\u00e8 un'estensione DXR per Direct3D 12 e librerie simili nell'API Vulkan, i motori di gioco possono accedervi indipendentemente dal fatto che la scheda grafica abbia una logica specializzata \u2014 basta che il driver lo permetta. Nella presentazione dello scorso anno dedicata ai modelli di punta della famiglia Turing \u2014 GeForce RTX 2080 e RTX 2080 Ti \u2014 gli ingegneri hanno presentato le seguenti osservazioni. Test di ray tracing su schede grafiche GeForce GTX 10 e 16\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/b7bd39970a79a541d96df04d74c66c10.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Nella pratica di gioco, la situazione \u00e8 pi\u00f9 complessa, poich\u00e9 sull'hardware esistente gli sviluppatori utilizzano in modo dosato le funzioni DXR, e la maggior parte del carico computazionale \u00e8 ancora occupata dalla rasterizzazione e dalle istruzioni shader. Inoltre, diversi effetti creati utilizzando il ray tracing possono essere eseguiti bene anche sui nuclei CUDA delle schede Pascal. Ad esempio, le superfici speculari in Battlefield V non prevedono riflessioni secondarie dei raggi, e pertanto rappresentano un carico gestibile per potenti schede grafiche della generazione precedente. Lo stesso vale per le ombre in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, anche se il rendering di ombre complesse formate da pi\u00f9 fonti di luce \u00e8 gi\u00e0 un compito pi\u00f9 difficile. Tuttavia, l'illuminazione globale in Metro Exodus \u00e8 difficile anche per il 'Turing', e da Pascal non ci si pu\u00f2 aspettare risultati comparabili in alcun modo.<\/p>\n<p>In un certo senso, stiamo parlando di una differenza significativa nelle prestazioni teoriche tra le architetture Turing e i loro pi\u00f9 vicini analoghi basati su silicio Pascal. A favore di Turing non gioca solo la presenza dei cores RT, ma anche numerosi miglioramenti di carattere generale caratteristici per gli acceleratori di nuova generazione. Ad esempio, i chip Turing possono eseguire contemporaneamente operazioni su dati in virgola mobile (FP32) e interi (INT), dispongono di un ampio volume di cache locale e nuclei CUDA dedicati per calcoli a precisione ridotta (FP16). Questo significa che Turing non solo gestisce meglio i programmi di shading, ma pu\u00f2 anche calcolare in modo relativamente efficiente la traccia dei raggi senza blocchi specializzati. Infatti, il rendering cos\u00ec intensivo in termini di risorse, attraverso il Ray Tracing, \u00e8 reso tale non solo dalla ricerca di intersezioni tra raggi e elementi geometrici (operazione a carico degli RT-cores), ma anche dal calcolo del colore nel punto di intersezione (shading). E tra l'altro, i vantaggi dell'architettura Turing si applicano pienamente a GeForce GTX 1660 e GTX 1660 Ti, anche se nel chip TU116 non ci sono RT-cores, rendendo i test di queste schede grafiche con il ray tracing software di particolare interesse.<\/p>\n<p>Ma basta teoria, infatti abbiamo gi\u00e0 raccolto dati sulle prestazioni delle 'Pascal' (e dei pi\u00f9 giovani 'Turing') in Battlefield V, Metro Exodus e Shadow of the Tomb Raider basati sulle nostre misurazioni. Per calcolare la frequenza minima dei fotogrammi, viene determinato il numero di fotogrammi generati in ogni secondo del test. Tuttavia, tra tutti i modelli senza supporto per il Ray Tracing a livello di silicio, siamo stati costretti a limitarci ai modelli GTX 1070\/1070 Ti e GTX 1080\/1080 Ti. I giochi di Electronic Arts reagiscono con sospetto ai cambiamenti frequenti della configurazione hardware e bloccano l'utente per un periodo di uno o pi\u00f9 giorni. Thus, the performance of GeForce RTX 20 graphics cards decreases by 28\u201343% at low and medium DXR effect quality, while at high and maximum settings, it drops by 37\u201353%.<\/p>\n<p>For the higher models of the GeForce 10 family, at Low and Medium ray tracing levels, the game loses between 36 and 42% FPS, while at high quality (High and Ultra settings), DXR consumes 54\u201367% of the frame rate. It is noteworthy that in many, if not most, gaming scenes in Battlefield V, there is no significant difference between Low and Medium settings, nor between High and Ultra settings \u2014 neither in image clarity nor performance. Hoping that Pascal graphics processors would be more sensitive to this parameter, we conducted tests at all four settings. Indeed, certain differences emerged, but only at 2160p resolution and within a 6% FPS range.<\/p>\n<p>In termini assoluti, qualsiasi delle schede grafiche di fascia alta basate su chip Pascal pu\u00f2 sostenere un frame rate superiore a 60 FPS in modalit\u00e0 1080p con qualit\u00e0 delle riflessioni ridotta, e la GeForce GTX 1080 Ti si avvicina a risultati simili anche con il ray tracing impostato su High.
