Tuttavia, le GPU basate sull'architettura Turing con RT core specializzati sono state fino a poco tempo fa considerate l'unica categoria di GPU discrete con la potenza di calcolo adeguata per questa tecnologia.<\/p>\n<p>Come hanno dimostrato i test dei primi giochi che hanno adottato il Ray Tracing (Battlefield V, Metro Exodus e Shadow of the Tomb Raider), anche le schede grafiche GeForce RTX (in particolare quella pi\u00f9 economica, la RTX 2060) mostrano una significativa riduzione della frequenza dei fotogrammi nelle attivit\u00e0 di rendering ibrido. Nonostante i primi successi, la ray tracing in tempo reale non pu\u00f2 ancora essere considerata una tecnologia matura. Solo quando non solo i dispositivi pi\u00f9 avanzati e costosi, ma anche le schede grafiche di fascia media raggiungeranno gli standard di prestazioni precedenti nei nuovi giochi, si potr\u00e0 dichiarare che il cambiamento di paradigma avviato da Jensen Huang \u00e8 finalmente avvenuto.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Nuovo articolo: GeForce RTX non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 necessario? All'evento GPU Technology Conference del mese scorso, il team verde ha annunciato che le schede grafiche basate su chip Pascal, cos\u00ec come i modelli pi\u00f9 economici della famiglia Turing (serie GeForce GTX 16), riceveranno la funzionalit\u00e0 di ray tracing in tempo reale insieme ai prodotti con marchio RTX. Oggi il driver promesso \u00e8 gi\u00e0 disponibile per il download sul sito ufficiale di NVIDIA, e l'elenco dei dispositivi include modelli della famiglia GeForce 10, a partire dalla GeForce GTX 1060 (versione da 6 GB), il professionale TITAN V basato sul chip Volta, e, naturalmente, i nuovi modelli di fascia media basati sul chip TU116 \u2013 GeForce GTX 1660 e GTX 1660 Ti. L'aggiornamento ha riguardato anche i laptop con GPU corrispondenti.<\/p>\n<p>Dal punto di vista tecnico, non c'\u00e8 nulla di soprannaturale. Le GPU con blocchi di shader unificati potevano eseguire il Ray Tracing molto prima dell'arrivo dell'architettura Turing, anche se all'epoca non avevano la potenza necessaria affinch\u00e9 questa funzionalit\u00e0 fosse richiesta nei giochi. Inoltre, mancava uno standard unico per i metodi software, a parte API chiuse come NVIDIA OptiX. Ora, con l'estensione DXR per Direct3D 12 e librerie analoghe nell'API Vulkan, un motore di gioco pu\u00f2 accedervi indipendentemente dal fatto che la GPU sia dotata di logica specializzata\u2014basta che il driver lo consenta. I chip Turing hanno nuclei RT separati per questo scopo, mentre la GPU dell'architettura Pascal e il processore TU116 implementano il Ray Tracing in forma di calcoli generali su un array di ALU shader.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Nuovo articolo: GeForce RTX non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 necessario? Nella presentazione dello scorso anno dedicata ai modelli di punta della famiglia Turing\u2014GeForce RTX 2080 e RTX 2080 Ti\u2014gli ingegneri hanno fornito le seguenti analisi. Test delle ray tracing su acceleratori GeForce GTX 10 e 16\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/b7bd39970a79a541d96df04d74c66c10.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Nei giochi reali, la situazione \u00e8 pi\u00f9 complessa, poich\u00e9 sugli hardware esistenti, gli sviluppatori utilizzano in modo dosato le funzionalit\u00e0 DXR, mentre gran parte del carico computazionale \u00e8 ancora occupata dalla rasterizzazione e dalle istruzioni degli shader. Inoltre, alcuni effetti diversi generati tramite il ray tracing possono essere eseguiti piuttosto bene anche sui nuclei CUDA delle schede Pascal. Ad esempio, le superfici speculari in Battlefield V non prevedono un riflesso secondario dei raggi e quindi rappresentano un carico fattibile per potenti schede video della generazione passata. Lo stesso vale per le ombre in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, anche se il rendering di ombre complesse formate da pi\u00f9 sorgenti di luce \u00e8 gi\u00e0 una sfida pi\u00f9 difficile. Tuttavia, l'illuminazione globale in Metro Exodus \u00e8 difficile anche per il<\/p>\n<p>Non c'\u00e8 dubbio che si stia parlando di una differenza multipla nelle prestazioni teoriche tra i rappresentanti dell'architettura Turing e i loro pi\u00f9 vicini analoghi in silicio Pascal. Inoltre, a favore del Turing non gioca solo la presenza dei core RT, ma anche i numerosi miglioramenti generali tipici degli acceleratori di nuova generazione. Infatti, i chip Turing possono eseguire in parallelo operazioni su dati in virgola mobile (FP32) e interi (INT), hanno un ampio volume di cache locale e core CUDA separati per calcoli a precisione ridotta (FP16). Tutto ci\u00f2 significa che il Turing non solo si occupa meglio dei programmi shader, ma pu\u00f2 anche calcolare in modo relativamente efficace il ray tracing senza blocchi specializzati. \u00c8 il rendering ad alta intensit\u00e0 di risorse mediante il Ray Tracing a richiedere non solo la ricerca delle intersezioni tra raggi e elementi di geometria (compito dei core RT), ma soprattutto il calcolo del colore nel punto di intersezione (shading). Inoltre, i vantaggi dell'architettura Turing si applicano pienamente anche a GeForce GTX 1660 e GTX 1660 Ti, anche se nel chip TU116 non ci sono core RT, quindi i test di queste schede grafiche con il ray tracing software rappresentano un interesse particolare.<\/p>\n<p>Ma basta teoria, poich\u00e9 abbiamo gi\u00e0 raccolto dati sulle prestazioni delle \u201cPascal\u201d (e dei pi\u00f9 piccoli \u201cTuring\u201d) in Battlefield V, Metro Exodus e Shadow of the Tomb Raider basati su misurazioni dirette. Per calcolare il frame rate minimo, si valuta il numero di frame generati in ogni secondo del test. Tuttavia, tra tutti i modelli senza supporto Ray Tracing a livello di silicio, abbiamo dovuto limitarci ai modelli GTX 1070\/1070 Ti e GTX 1080\/1080 Ti. I giochi di Electronic Arts rispondono con sospetto ai frequenti cambiamenti della configurazione hardware e bloccano l'utente per un periodo di uno o pi\u00f9 giorni. Pertanto, le misurazioni delle prestazioni della GeForce GTX 1060 e di due dispositivi della serie GeForce GTX 16 verranno pubblicate in questo articolo pi\u00f9 avanti, non appena Battlefield V rimuover\u00e0 le limitazioni dalla nostra macchina di test.<\/p>\n<p>In termini percentuali, qualsiasi partecipante al test subisce una diminuzione della reattivit\u00e0 simile con diverse impostazioni di qualit\u00e0 del ray tracing, indipendentemente dalla risoluzione dello schermo. Cos\u00ec, le prestazioni delle schede video della serie GeForce RTX 20 diminuiscono del 28\u201343 % con la qualit\u00e0 degli effetti DXR bassa e media, mentre in alta e massima diminuiscono del 37\u201353 %.<\/p>\n<p>Per quanto riguarda i modelli pi\u00f9 avanzati della famiglia GeForce 10, a livelli di tracciamento dei raggi bassi e medi, il gioco perde dal 36 al 42% di FPS, mentre a qualit\u00e0 alta (impostazioni High e Ultra) DXR consuma gi\u00e0 dal 54 al 67% della frequenza di aggiornamento. Da notare che in molte, se non nella maggior parte delle scene di gioco in Battlefield V, non c'\u00e8 una differenza evidente tra le impostazioni Low e Medium, cos\u00ec come tra High e Ultra \u2013 n\u00e9 in termini di nitidezza dell'immagine, n\u00e9 di prestazioni. Nella speranza che le GPU Pascal siano pi\u00f9 sensibili a questo parametro, abbiamo condotto test su tutte e quattro le impostazioni. E in effetti, sono emerse alcune differenze, ma solo a risoluzione 2160p e in un range del 6% di FPS.<\/p>\n<p>Nei valori assoluti, qualsiasi delle schede di punta con chip Pascal pu\u00f2 mantenere un frame rate oltre i 60 FPS in modalit\u00e0 1080p con qualit\u00e0 di riflesso ridotta, mentre la GeForce GTX 1080 Ti punta a risultati simili anche a ray tracing a livello High. Ma se si passa alla risoluzione 1440p, solo la GeForce GTX 1080 e la GTX 1080 Ti offrono un frame rate confortevole di 60 FPS e oltre a qualit\u00e0 di ray tracing Low o Medium, mentre in modalit\u00e0 4K nessuna delle schede di generazione precedente possiede una potenza computazionale adeguata (allo stesso modo di qualsiasi Turing, eccetto la GeForce RTX 2080 Ti di punta).<\/p>\n<p>Cercando parallelismi tra specifiche schede della serie GeForce GTX 10 e GeForce RTX 20, il modello migliore della generazione precedente (GeForce GTX 1080 Ti), che nei compiti di rendering standard senza DXR \u00e8 equivalente alla GeForce RTX 2080, si \u00e8 posizionato al livello della GeForce RTX 2070 con qualit\u00e0 di ray tracing ridotta, mentre a qualit\u00e0 alta pu\u00f2 competere solo con la GeForce RTX 2060.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Nuovo articolo: GeForce RTX non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 necessario?
