Si prevede che questo <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.datacenterknowledge.com\/industry-perspectives\/achieving-data-center-energy-efficiency\">numero crescer\u00e0 fino al 5% entro il 2020.<\/a><\/noindex>.<br \/>\n<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" name=\"habracut\"><\/a><\/noindex><br \/>\nUna parte significativa dell'energia elettrica \u00e8 consumata dagli SSD. Dal 2012 al 2017 la quota degli SSD nei data center <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/large.stanford.edu\/courses\/2017\/ph240\/yu2\/\">\u00e8 aumentata dall'8 al 22%.<\/a><\/noindex>Anche se gli SSD consumano un terzo della potenza (<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fujifilmusa.com\/products\/tape_data_storage\/case_studies\/pdf\/Hyperscale_Heat_Wave.pdf\">PDF, p. 13<\/a><\/noindex>), le bollette elettriche restano elevate a livello di data center.<\/p>\n<p>Per ridurre il consumo energetico degli SSD nei data center, ingegneri del MIT hanno sviluppato una nuova architettura di archiviazione SSD. \u00c8 stata chiamata LightStore e consente di collegare direttamente i dispositivi alla rete dei data center, saltando i server di archiviazione. Successivamente, queste vengono inviate al server, che restituisce i dati associati a quella chiave.<\/p>\n<p>Sistema <noindex>contiene<\/noindex> un processore integrato a risparmio energetico, DRAM e memoria NAND. Viene gestito da un controller e un software dedicato. Il controller \u00e8 responsabile della gestione degli array NAND, mentre il software si occupa dell'elaborazione delle richieste KV e della memorizzazione delle coppie di chiavi. L'architettura del software si basa su <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/LSM-%D0%B4%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%BE\">un albero LSM<\/a><\/noindex>, utilizzato in molti dei moderni DBMS.<\/p>\n<p>Lo schema dell'architettura pu\u00f2 essere rappresentato come segue:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Un nuovo tipo di archiviazione SSD ridurr\u00e0 il consumo energetico nei data center \u2014 come funziona\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/17158b9e9f6a32d6e7e325cabf598909.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><br \/>\n<br \/>\nNello schema sono mostrati i componenti fondamentali di LightStore. Un cluster di nodi lavora con coppie chiave-valore. I server applicativi si connettono al sistema tramite adattatori. Questi trasformano le richieste dei client (ad esempio, fread() dall'API POSIX) in richieste KV. Inoltre, l'architettura prevede adattatori separati per <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/YCSB\">YCSB<\/a><\/noindex>, archiviazioni a blocchi (basate sul modulo BUSE) e archiviazioni di file.<\/p>\n<p>Distribuendo le richieste, l'adattatore utilizza <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%A1%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%BB%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B5_%D1%85%D0%B5%D1%88%D0%B8%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B5\">l'hashing consistente<\/a><\/noindex>. Viene utilizzato in sistemi come Redis o Swift. Grazie alla chiave della richiesta KV, l'adattatore genera una chiave hash il cui valore determina il nodo di destinazione.<\/p>\n<p>La capacit\u00e0 del cluster LightStore scala linearmente: \u00e8 sufficiente collegare nodi aggiuntivi alla rete. In alcuni casi potrebbe essere necessario acquistare nuovi switch. Tuttavia, gli sviluppatori hanno dotato ogni nodo di slot extra per il collegamento di chip NAND.<\/p>\n<h2>Il potenziale architettonico<\/h2>\n<p>\nGli ingegneri del MIT affermano che la larghezza di banda della soluzione basata su LightStore \u00e8 di 620 Mbit\/s per Ethernet a 10 gigabit. Un nodo consuma 10 W invece dei consueti 20 W (nelle sistemazioni SSD utilizzate dai data center oggi). Inoltre, l'hardware occupa il doppio dello spazio.<\/p>\n<p>Attualmente, gli sviluppatori stanno perfezionando alcuni aspetti. Ad esempio, LightStore non \u00e8 ancora in grado di gestire richieste per intervallo e piccole richieste. Queste funzionalit\u00e0 verranno aggiunte in futuro, poich\u00e9 LightStore utilizza alberi LSM. Inoltre, il sistema attualmente dispone di un set limitato di adattatori: supporta adattatori YCSB e di blocco. In futuro, LightStore sar\u00e0 in grado di elaborare richieste SQL e altro ancora.<\/p>\n<h2>Altri sviluppi<\/h2>\n<p>\nNell'estate del 2018, Marvell, azienda sviluppatrice di storage, ha presentato una nuova linea di controller SSD basati su sistemi di intelligenza artificiale. Gli sviluppatori hanno integrato gli acceleratori di deep learning NVIDIA nei controller standard per data center e applicazioni client. Di conseguenza, hanno creato un'architettura autonoma che consuma meno energia rispetto ai tradizionali controller SSD. L'azienda spera che il sistema trovi applicazione nell'edge computing, nell'analisi dei big data e nell'IoT.<\/p>\n<p>Recentemente, la linea di dischi Western Digital Blue \u00e8 stata aggiornata. Ad aprile, gli sviluppatori hanno presentato la soluzione - WD Blue SSD basata sulle tecnologie SanDisk, acquisite da WD un anno fa. I nuovi WD Blue SSD si distinguono per prestazioni elevate ed efficienza energetica. L'architettura \u00e8 costruita sulla base della specifica <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NVM_Express\">NVMe<\/a><\/noindex>, che consente l'accesso a SSD connessi tramite PCI Express.<\/p>\n<p>Questa specifica aumenta l'efficienza operativa degli SSD con un elevato numero di richieste simultanee e accelera l'accesso ai dati. Inoltre, NVMe consente di standardizzare l'interfaccia SSD: ai produttori hardware non sar\u00e0 pi\u00f9 necessario spendere risorse <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NVM_Express#%D0%9F%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%BF%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%8B%D0%BB%D0%BA%D0%B8_%D0%BF%D0%BE%D1%8F%D0%B2%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F\">non dovrai spendere risorse<\/a><\/noindex> per lo sviluppo di driver, connettori e formati unici.<\/p>\n<h2>Prospettive<\/h2>\n<p>\nIl mercato degli SSD per i Data Center sta evolvendo verso una semplificazione dell'architettura, automazione dei componenti di archiviazione e aumento dell'efficienza energetica. Il progetto degli ingegneri del MIT affronta quest'ultima sfida. Gli autori <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/news.mit.edu\/2019\/solid-state-drives-flash-storage-data-center-efficiency-0403\">prevedono<\/a><\/noindex>, che LightStore diventer\u00e0 lo standard del settore per gli archivi SSD nei Data Center.
