Nove anni fa, sulla rivista Nature Communications, i ricercatori del MIT <noindex><\/a>hanno pubblicato un rapporto<\/a><\/noindex>, in cui hanno annunciato lo sviluppo di una tecnologia interessante per l'allineamento delle molecole di polietilene. In condizioni normali, il polietilene, come altri polimeri, assomiglia a una zuppa di molti pezzi di spaghetti attaccati tra loro. Questo rende il polimero un ottimo isolante termico, e gli scienziati hanno sempre desiderato qualcosa di diverso. Che bel sogno sarebbe quello di produrre un polimero capace di condurre il calore tanto quanto i metalli! E per farlo basta poco: allineare le molecole del polimero affinch\u00e9 possano trasferire il calore attraverso monocanali dalla sorgente al punto di dispersione. L'esperimento ha avuto successo. Gli scienziati sono riusciti a creare singole fibre di polietilene con ottima conducibilit\u00e0 termica. Ma per l'implementazione nell'industria, ci\u00f2 non era sufficiente.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"I radiatori per processori potrebbero diventare di plastica e non \u00e8 un complotto dei produttori\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/7c3ae585ced639a710913d3fd8e9698d.jpg\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Oggi lo stesso gruppo di scienziati del MIT ha pubblicato un nuovo rapporto sui polimeri termoconduttivi. Negli ultimi nove anni \u00e8 stato fatto un grande lavoro. Invece di produrre singole fibre, i ricercatori <noindex><\/a>hanno sviluppato e creato<\/a><\/noindex> un impianto sperimentale per la produzione di un rivestimento termoconduttivo in pellicola. Inoltre, per la creazione delle pellicole termoconduttive \u00e8 stato utilizzato non un materiale unico, come nove anni fa, ma comune polietilene in polvere per uso industriale.<\/p>\n<p>Nella produzione esperienziale, la polvere di polietilene si dissolve in un liquido e successivamente la miscela viene spruzzata su un piatto raffreddato con azoto liquido. Dopo ci\u00f2, il semilavorato viene riscaldato e disteso su un rullo fino a ottenere uno stato di pellicola sottile, dello spessore di un involucro. Le misure hanno dimostrato che la pellicola di polietilene conduttiva prodotta in questo modo ha un coefficiente di conducibilit\u00e0 termica di 60 W\/(m\u00b7K). A titolo di confronto, il valore per l'acciaio \u00e8 15 W\/(m\u00b7K), mentre per la plastica comune \u00e8 di 0,1\u20130,5 W\/(m\u00b7K). Il diamante pu\u00f2 vantare la migliore conducibilit\u00e0 termica, con 2000 W\/(m\u00b7K), ma superare la conducibilit\u00e0 dei metalli \u00e8 comunque un buon risultato.<\/p>\n<p><center><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Il polimero termoconduttivo presenta anche una serie di altre caratteristiche importanti. Ad esempio, il calore si trasferisce in una sola direzione. Immaginate un laptop o uno smartphone che dissipano calore dai processori senza un sistema di raffreddamento attivo. Altri importanti ambiti di applicazione della plastica termoconduttiva potrebbero includere automobili, impianti frigoriferi e altro. La plastica non teme la corrosione, non conduce elettricit\u00e0, \u00e8 leggera e resistente. L'implementazione di materiali come questo nella vita quotidiana potrebbe dare impulso allo sviluppo dell'industria in molti settori.
