Drew DeVault<\/a>, sviluppatore attivo del protocollo Wayland, creatore del progetto Sway<\/a> e della libreria associata wlroots<\/a> ha annunciato sul suo microblog<\/a> un nuovo compositor Wayland \u2014 Wio<\/a>, un'implementazione del sistema finestrato Rio<\/a>, utilizzata nel sistema operativo Plan 9<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Esteticamente, il compositor riproduce l'aspetto e il comportamento dell'originale Rio, creando, spostando e rimuovendo finestre di terminali con il mouse, eseguendo all'interno di esse programmi grafici (la porta di Rio su X11 del progetto Plan 9 from User Space<\/a> non replicava la funzionalit\u00e0 originale, creando semplicemente una nuova finestra con il programma accanto).<\/p>\n

All'interno viene utilizzato il compositor wlroots Cage<\/a> per creare \u00abchioschi\u00bb, il cui codice permette di eseguire pi\u00f9 display Wayland nel contesto di una singola sessione utente. Secondo DeVault, questa \u00e8 una delle funzionalit\u00e0 interessanti che evidenziano la differenza radicale nel design tra Wayland e X11, dove ci\u00f2 \u00e8 semplicemente impossibile o difficile da realizzare.<\/p>\n
