Due anni fa, gli sviluppatori della distribuzione Ubuntu hanno interrotto il rilascio delle versioni a 32 bit del sistema operativo. Ora, deciso<\/a><\/noindex> \u00e8 stata presa la decisione di interrompere la creazione e i relativi pacchetti. La scadenza \u00e8 fissata per il rilascio autunnale di Ubuntu 19.10. L'ultima versione LTS con supporto per l'indirizzamento della memoria a 32 bit sar\u00e0 Ubuntu 18.04. Si segnala che tutte le edizioni delle distribuzioni basate su Ubuntu perderanno anch'esse il supporto per il formato obsoleto. Anche se, in pratica, la maggior parte ha gi\u00e0 abbandonato tale formato. Tuttavia, \u00e8 prevista la possibilit\u00e0 di eseguire applicazioni a 32 bit in Ubuntu 19.10 e versioni pi\u00f9 recenti. A tal fine, si propone di utilizzare un ambiente separato con Ubuntu 18.04 in un contenitore o un pacchetto snap con le relative librerie.<\/p>\n

Per quanto riguarda le ragioni della cessazione del supporto per l'architettura i386, tra queste ci sono questioni di sicurezza. Ad esempio, molti strumenti nel kernel di Linux, nei browser e in varie utility non vengono pi\u00f9 sviluppati per architetture a 32 bit. Oppure vengono sviluppati con ritardo.<\/p>\n

Inoltre, il supporto per architetture obsolete richiede risorse e tempo aggiuntivi, mentre il numero di utenti di tali sistemi non supera l'1% del totale di coloro che \"utilizzano\" Ubuntu. Infine, l'hardware che non supporta l'indirizzamento della memoria a 64 bit \u00e8 ormai obsoleto e non viene pi\u00f9 utilizzato. La maggior parte dei PC e dei laptop \u00e8 gi\u00e0 dotata di processori con indirizzamento a 64 bit, quindi non dovrebbero esserci problemi di transizione.
