Amministrazione nazionale dell'aeronautica e dello spazio (NASA) ha rivelato<\/a><\/noindex> informazioni su un'intrusione nell'infrastruttura interna, che \u00e8 rimasta non rilevata per circa un anno. \u00c8 interessante notare che la rete era isolata dalle minacce esterne, e l'intrusione \u00e8 stata effettuata dall'interno utilizzando una scheda Raspberry Pi, collegata senza autorizzazione presso il Jet Propulsion Laboratory. <\/p>\n

Questa scheda \u00e8 stata utilizzata dai dipendenti come punto di accesso alla rete locale. Durante l'intrusione nel sistema utente esterno, che aveva accesso al gateway, gli attaccanti sono riusciti a ottenere accesso alla scheda e attraverso di essa all'intera rete interna del Jet Propulsion Laboratory, che ha sviluppato il rover Curiosity e i telescopi inviati nello spazio.<\/p>\n

Nel mese di aprile 2018 sono state identificate intrusioni da parte di terzi nella rete interna. Durante l'attacco, gli sconosciuti sono riusciti a intercettare 23 file, per un totale di circa 500 MB, relativi a missioni su Marte. Due file contenevano informazioni soggette a restrizioni per l'esportazione di tecnologie a doppio utilizzo. Inoltre, gli attaccanti hanno ottenuto accesso alla rete delle antenne satellitari. DSN<\/a><\/noindex> (Deep Space Network), utilizzato per ricevere e inviare dati ai veicoli spaziali impiegati nelle missioni NASA.<\/p>\n

Tra le cause che hanno facilitato l'esecuzione dell'attacco si segnala
\nLa mancata risoluzione tempestiva delle vulnerabilit\u00e0 nei sistemi interni. In particolare, alcune vulnerabilit\u00e0 attuali sono rimaste non sistemate per oltre 180 giorni. Nel dipartimento, inoltre, il database ITSDB (Information Technology Security Database) non \u00e8 stato gestito in modo adeguato, dove avrebbero dovuto essere registrati tutti i dispositivi connessi alla rete interna. L'analisi ha rivelato che questo database era compilato in modo disordinato e non rifletteva lo stato reale della rete, inclusa la scheda Raspberry Pi utilizzata dai dipendenti. La rete interna non \u00e8 stata suddivisa in segmenti pi\u00f9 piccoli, facilitando l'attivit\u00e0 degli attaccanti.<\/p>\n
