Mimalloc \u00e8 progettato per essere utilizzato in applicazioni standard senza modificare il loro codice e pu\u00f2 fungere da sostituzione trasparente della funzione malloc. \u00c8 supportato su Windows, macOS, Linux, BSD e altri sistemi simili a Unix.<\/p>\n<p>Una caratteristica chiave di mimalloc \u00e8 la compattezza dell'implementazione (meno di 3500 righe di codice) e l'alta prestazione. Nei <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/microsoft\/mimalloc#performance\">test condotti<\/a><\/noindex> mimalloc ha superato in prestazioni tutte le librerie concorrenti di allocazione della memoria, comprese <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jemalloc\/jemalloc\">jemalloc<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/gperftools\/gperftools\">tcmalloc<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/microsoft\/snmalloc\">snmalloc<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/rampantpixels\/rpmalloc\">rpmalloc<\/a><\/noindex> e <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/emeryberger\/Hoard\">Hoard<\/a><\/noindex>. <\/p>\n<p>Per valutare le prestazioni \u00e8 stato utilizzato un insieme di  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/daanx\/mimalloc-bench\">test standard<\/a><\/noindex> In alcuni test, mimalloc ha superato altre soluzioni di diversi ordini di grandezza; ad esempio, nel test di migrazione degli oggetti tra thread diversi, mimalloc \u00e8 risultato pi\u00f9 veloce di tcmalloc e jemalloc di oltre 2,5 volte. Inoltre, nella maggior parte dei test si osserva anche un minore consumo di memoria, in alcune situazioni il consumo di memoria pu\u00f2 essere ridotto del 25%.<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Microsoft ha rilasciato il codice del sistema di distribuzione della memoria mimalloc\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/05811d717a243138d2bc926697657fa1.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>L'alta prestazione \u00e8 raggiunta principalmente grazie all'uso del partitioning delle liste di blocchi liberi (free list sharding). Invece di un'unica grande lista, mimalloc utilizza la suddivisione in una serie di liste pi\u00f9 piccole, ciascuna legata a una pagina di memoria. Questo approccio riduce la frammentazione e migliora la localizzazione dei dati in memoria. Con pagina di memoria si intende un insieme raggruppato di blocchi simili per dimensione. Su sistemi a 64 bit, la dimensione della pagina \u00e8 normalmente di 64 KB. Nel caso in cui non ci siano blocchi occupati in una pagina, viene completamente liberata restituendo memoria al sistema operativo, riducendo cos\u00ec l'overhead di memoria e la frammentazione nelle applicazioni a lungo termine.<\/p>\n<p>La libreria pu\u00f2 essere collegata durante la fase di linking o caricata per un programma gi\u00e0 compilato (&#171;LD_PRELOAD=\\\/usr\\\/bin\\\/libmimalloc.so  myprogram&#187;). Nella libreria viene anche fornito <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/microsoft.github.io\/mimalloc\/group__extended.html\">API<\/a><\/noindex> per integrare funzionalit\u00e0 in tempo reale e per un controllo fine del comportamento, ad esempio, per connettere gestori per il rilascio posticipato della memoria e l'incremento monotono dei contatori dei riferimenti. \u00c8 possibile creare e utilizzare pi\u00f9 &#171;heap&#187; nell'applicazione per diversi ambiti di memoria. \u00c8 anche possibile liberare completamente un heap, senza scorrere e liberare singolarmente gli oggetti posizionati in esso.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c8 prevista la possibilit\u00e0 di compilare la libreria in modalit\u00e0 sicura, in cui ai confini dei blocchi viene effettuata l'inserzione di pagine di memoria di controllo (guard-page) e viene utilizzata anche la randomizzazione della distribuzione dei blocchi e la crittografia delle liste dei blocchi liberati. Queste misure consentono di bloccare la maggior parte delle tecniche standard di sfruttamento delle vulnerabilit\u00e0 da overflow del buffer nell'heap. L'attivazione della modalit\u00e0 sicura comporta una riduzione delle prestazioni del circa 3%.<\/p>\n<p>Tra le caratteristiche di mimalloc si evidenzia anche la non vulnerabilit\u00e0 a problemi di espansione in caso di elevata frammentazione. Nello scenario peggiore, il consumo di memoria aumenta dello 0,2% per i metadati e pu\u00f2 raggiungere il 16,7% per la memoria allocata.
